    3 series but not an e30 - f31 daily

Recently bought a new daily and figured we all like BMWs and more content for the site. So here it is, a 2016 328i X-drive F31.

    Some quick details:
    • Bought with just over 81,000 miles, it is the lowest mileage vehicle in the stable by almost 50k.
    • Mediterranean blue over oyster.
    • Stock
    • 4 cylinder turbo with automatic
No real plans yet as I spent all my money getting it. But maybe in the future I'd like to do some coilovers, new wheels, exhaust, and the M sport front bumper. Turns out after buying e30 parts for 10 years, newer vehicles also cost more for aftermarket parts. With now having a reliable cruiser, I am looking forward to some sporty roadtrips, maybe Monterey Car week some day or an IMSA event. Anyways, here's a few photos.

      B58 swap it!!!!

I picked up a 2014 335i RWD Manual about 5 years ago. It came with 91k miles, now has 140k. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, heads up display, navigation, powered amp under the seat, WORKING AC, quiet., etc., just a nice and comfortable car. People complain about it not being as connected as older generations, which is true, but it really is a nice daily.

For your car, look into a BM3 tune for the engine and a XHP flash for the transmission. That'll get you significantly more power with just a laptop. Moving on to intercoolers, downpipes, turbo inlets, etc. will get you more, but really isn't as cheap $ per hp. I've bought a bunch of stuff from Extreme Powerhouse, MAD products are cheap, but good enough and do the job.

Bimmercode - app to adjust all the settings (like turning on coding for rear fog lights to work)
Bimmerlink - fault code scan tool
Ista - Find the download info on f30post to get a pirate copy and have full access to dealership level diagnostics

              nice car

way better than a shitty little suv

make sure you do that timing chain tensioner. Also, these cars will suck the drive belt behind the harmonic balancer into the timing components, which is major work obviously..

So make sure that oil filter housing gasket and cap are not leaking onto the belt

It's the daily! I'm not trying to repeat my e30 mistakes going over the top with engine bits that never worked well again. haha

Good to know about the diagnostics though, thanks.

My wife has the suv so no need for two. I wanted something all wheel drive and sporty but also something I was ok having automatic. 2016 has the revised guide/chain tensioner which are supposedly good for 200k, or at least much longer than the early faulty ones so I should be good for awhile.

                  Nice motor, love the colour

I had an F31 in the UK. The ZF 8 speed is unbelievable, so smooth and fast, can't even feel shifts

That generation has the perfect amount of buttons and manual controls before it got all touch screeny

For a diesel wagon it shifted with xDrive

It was also the nicest car I've ever owned and I miss it all the time now I have an unreliable GM 3 metric ton boat as a daily

If you don't have adaptive suspension look at AC Schnitzer lowering springs, they're meant to transform the handling. I always wanted to do it but never got round to it
