So lets update a little allthought years has gone by but i still have the touring on my garage.
Allthought the engine was taken out because it had some issues with the power output and it made a terrible noise..
So at the middle of the winter took out the trailer and moved the car to our "crew garage"
Pretty slippy to drive to trailer on ice with "burnt out" summer tires :giggle:
So i pulled the engine out and decided to "fix it" a little..
idea was to change the Crank from 2.8,make a restoration for the hole engine etc supposed to do a high compression "M50B28".
As i started to tear the engine apart i was amazed how worn the hole engine was.. i was wondering how it still had stayed "running on"
No hope for the steelblock the cylinders were so worn that it was easier to send it to junkyard..
I started to look something littlebit lighter and powerful.
Bought a M52B25 alublock and rotating assembly from E39
With my little brother on one afternoon took the E39 engine out and lifted it to my E34 sedans "winterbeater V8" trunk
laughed to 14 cylinders in one E34.
The engine itself block is 22kg lighter than the M50B25...
In few hours the engine was teared apart.
Then i bathed the engine block in hot water and solvent so it became clean from all the brown stuff inside.
So the block was good enought and i got the pistons on it to make even little higher CR than with the steelblock and pistons.
So heres a little view at the parts that are going in
M52B28 forged Crank "smurff blue"
M52B28 connecting rods
M54B30 intake cam
M50B25 NV Intake cam to exhaust side
M52B25 Pistons (from Nikasil alublock)
Block washed and lifted to enginestand No friend needed!!
It didnt look good to my eye cause it was silver.. And i earlier decided that all the stuff that goes to engine bay is going to be clean/new or black.
So...

Assembled the covers, taped all the critical places and Sandblasted all parts.
Prepared for the wash primer soon that the aluminium doesnt "oxygen" or whats it is called..
After washprimer i srayed a nice coat of jet black 2-k acryl to the parts.
Aluminium "older 24V type" Thermostat housing.. Wont break like the plastic ones..
E34 oilpan
Valve Cover
All the other engine "stuff" were painted too.. including, startmotor, powersteering pump, alternator (pretty nice job to disassemble)
All the guys in our garage laughted to me when i said im gonna paint all the parts as good as i can.. Came up pretty nice..
I have assembled the rotating parts to engine block, new piston rings and bearings etc. New oil pump rotors need to be ordered from local bmw dealer.
I did a little (40-60H) dentist work with the Cylinderhead.. Hope its gonna give me something in response
Exhaust ports are Smoothened and polished.
50/50 shot
Same job at the intake ports, these i left them a little more "rough" so the gas wont make drops in the channels.
Finished intake ports.
At the moment the car is standing out of the carage without engine as it still sits on the enginestand, not making any progress.
because..

Few more bolts to the wheel studs.. more power to brakes and a few other mods..
AND ANOTHER E30 TOURING WITH 24V!!
This project was started by one of my best friends(ever) at the same garage at the same time as my first touring..
It was progressing at good speed, but the work was slowered down because problems with other projects/cars took all the time and it was standing there with little stuff done sometimes.
Suddenly my friend was killed in a car accident at the age of 24years in July 2010.
He was one of the "knowhow" guys of "our enthusiast area" so this project was moved from our groupgarage to his home garage where it standed almost 5 years untouched one day i heard it was decided to be sold to junkyard because it was taking all the space..
I thought that No Way its going to be junk..
So i told my friends mom that this car is going to be build up as it was supposed to become and im willing to finish this project ;)
So i picked up the car last week and have been working with it few days now..
Got the engine back to running condition, sorted out parts that are messed up at bins etc etc..
Like a big E30 puzzle..
Collect all the parts and assemble them :nice:
So now i have two E30 Tourings and both have the 24V motors..
The Red one is going to be like factory would have done it.
All the AC and other "toys" working on it.
It needs a new Brillantrot paintjob and some nice wheels, very little rust issues and preworked engine/drivetrain makes it a little easier project.
Time will show whichever is going to be driven first :D
I thought i had enought projects already but i couldnt say no to this red one.
i have also the Winterbeater V8 E34 to take care off
And as a cherry topping an 1980 745i as a restauration project.Last edited by Osku; 08-11-2014, 11:06 AM.

This just isn't fair.
Painted parts look amazing though
EDIT:ou you were from australia, was it like that they never delivered/sold tourings to australia/US at new ?
I been popping out a vision of transforming the dark touring to a "real" race car.. roll cage, race seats(only 2 seats),proper belts and other racing "equipment".
It would possibly be looking quite nasty at the parkin lot of a local grocery store.. just hanging these shopping bags to the net on the rollcage :D
All because i need a flawless interior for the brillantrot..

Been working with the Brillantrot
Prepping work for painting, little rust issues got sandblasted.
The "cargo hauling gap" or whatever you like to call it needed to be replaced, repair pieces from another car and welding, grinding, sanding.
Finally it was filled with a body tin(dont know what you guys call it) but with a torch and wooden piece it was applied. then a little bodyfiller and it was good to go.
Only 4 spots beside the cargo hauling area on entire body needed to be welded, guess i got lucky this time.
Suprised by a winter a little snow doesnt harm no one.
Notice my littlebrothers "stress toy" E21 in the background 430bhp/550nM torque..
(Stock M42B18,SwitzerS200turbo,MS etc Runs on Ethanol)
When its about the time his gonna get a burnout from daily job this machine makes a perfect job as an antistress rubber punishing therapist!!
Etch primer(rust prevention) to the bare blasted spots.
Little bit of bodyfiller and lot of sanding, sanding, priming and all the prepping work took almost 200hours.
Roof was one of the biggest issues.
25-30 litttle Dents all over(caused by "icerock" storm) and few bigger dents.
Will be adding more photos to this thread at the next postLast edited by Osku; 01-13-2015, 11:20 PM.
