You guys need to make friends with BMW collision. I'm sure you can find a couple guys in the shop to do it "on the side." Prepping and painting my lip with flex agent cost $15.Originally posted by Jordan$70 is a fucking steal for how much prep work this lip needs.

The geunine Rieger lip requires all but no prep. The surface finish is great.
The replica has a ocean waves surface. Needs to be sanded. It has a huge mold mark at the top that takes forever to sand off. The whole flat face of the lip needs to be sanded flat, and when you do it opens up about 25 pin holes per sq. in. Those all need to be filled.
The sand it all one more time, primer it. Sand the primer and then paint.
All in all 3-4hrs of prep work is required to make it look its best.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

that's just the paint, I'm doing it myself. I have enough for two lips though so if I destroy this one I'll get another is lip.Originally posted by C ///M$70?? Are you kidding me? and yeah it does need lots of work. all I have left to fill are the pinholes, and then reinforcing the mounting area. I'm trying to keep it simple though because it'll be a pretty big waste of time if I end up running it over anyway.Comment

my brother shattered mine at an autocross ;)Originally posted by trentWas I only one of the few that saw this coming? That is why i made my reiger one track only -- lot less likely to have a problem (i hope..hehe)
Chris, it's the splitter, seriously. The only way they hold up perfectly is if they have a beefy splitter on em. The only reason mine broke with the splitter is because I had it bolted to the valance and thwacked a curb going backwards, knocking the bolts off of one side, spun back around and the unhooked side caught under my wheel while driving away, shearing it across the splitterOriginally posted by C ///MAm I the only one that actually has a good lip/mounting job? I hit plenty of snow drifts and plow piles with no problem. It was the wet hardened snow too. Also got the car wedged at the bottom of my driveway, bottomed out a few times, etc... Still looks as good as the first day I mounted it.Originally posted by trentWas I only one of the few that saw this coming? I for one was fairly happy with the quality control of the rieger lip. That compared to extremely happy with the is lip I got afterward :P
edit: I'd like to see a CF one

I'm considering buying one, I'll talk to Fil about it. The iS lip was damn near identical dimensions-wise to my factory piece, and was just as flexible as that picture. I was more than happy with it, and I'm generally an OEM freak.Originally posted by BMW BMXERIf you are scared about quality get Jay (Mystikal) to drive over and take a look at one, hes pretty anal quality wise.
Anyone notice a tactile increase in stability with the Rieger lip? I think I could rationalize it to myself if it'll help with 100mph+ tracking.Comment

My car is night and day better with the Rieger lip vs. no lip at high speeds.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast
