Is it possible that the caliper broke loose first, causing the wheel to lock and the sudden trauma sheared the strut tube?

Also, to all of you who want to weld the strut tube to the knuckle, I wouldn't. The knuckle is cast and without preheating and proper welding, there is a good chance you will make it brittle causing it to crack. Even done correctly, there still is a good chance it will crack. It was probably pressed in place from the factory for this reason.

I was also thinking this explanation makes a LOT more sense.

How many times has this happened? One recorded time? No reason to shit ur britches leave ur strut toobs alone.

I don't think so because the bolt was sheered clean off, not just lost.

What does your ball joint look like? The only reason I ask is because I used to have a 2ga (1995) dsm, and they were infamous for having their ball joints break. I saw one on the side of the road that had a balljoint actually bust on them, and it looked similar to your first pic. I never actually saw the damage it caused, but he was only doing 20 or less when it happened (he was in a turn lane when the ball joint gave out)

                    Thad.

Edit: Sorry to see the damage it caused, but at least it's nothing that isn't fixable...

I cannot tell from the pictures what is going on with the ball joint, but is it possible that the balljoint failed and all the ensuing madness resulted from that?

glad to see you are ok and can handle an emergency situation. that could have been a lot worse like said.

sorry to see the car get damaged though.

Id put money on your caliper bolts breaking or coming out and causing the rest of the damage. Ive seen that happen more than once.

I always wondered if that would happen..

Hope things fix back up easy.

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.
