Makes me wonder,i have 272.000 miles and no problems like that. But that just sheered off on its own and the metal looks good (no corrosion/rust). I have been working on european cars now since 1994 and i have never had one of those strut tubes break on its own (maybe just bad luck in this case i guess). Glad to see your ok and sorry for the damage to your car,it could have been alot worse danny.

That's crazy damage.. Very strange. From the factory the tubes are pressed in and welded on the bottom. It's a beefy weld too. That sort of damage isn't caused by your average pot hole, especially the sheering of the tube.

Lots of local-ish BMW club racers reinforce their strut housings. Some guys have tweaked their housings where the tube goes into the knuckle after spinning on R-comps. It usually just throws the camber out, but it is essentially weakening the tube.

      I'm glad you are ok.

At first I was like "WTF AM I LOOKING AT?!"

Was that a stock "turbo boge" shock? When I swapped mine out, I could hear that hydraulic fluid being moved around in there.. it was pretty much done, but not nearly as done as yours.

I love seeing these threads, because it's always like "I was doing 90 around Nurburg, then my steering wheel broke off and my two front tires exploded which caused a fire in my engine bay. I still managed to stop the car and it will be rebuilt within a week."

Can't do that in a fucking Chrysler.

                B A N A N A S!

Glad the rubber stayed down and you intact man! Thats a freaky instance right there. You should play a lotto ticket with your odds.

I would be on board with a caliper issue, then the rest. Or even the ball joint failure/popping out.

Either way, you are safe, and the car is fixable. SO congrats?!? lol

That sucks, i've passed at over 200 kph over some big bumps in the freeway, glad my strut didn't give up.

Did you also loose your mt2 valance?

Dude, that's crazy. Good thing that didn't happen on the way up here.

I'm going to vote ball joint failure caused it all.

The ball joint is actually popped straight out of the control arm and still bolted to the steering knuckle. Weird thing is they're brand new, less than 5k miles on them.

sounds like the ball joint could be a likely cause.

What did you get? I got a cheap control arm at schucks... now I'm scared.
