wasnt just AFI lol, the mars volta, circa survive, saosin, underoath (meh, but the screaming helped ease our frustration) and even a little celine dion...

    and TJ-

i was a complete and utter newb when i went into this swap, so was my buddy. and in many aspects i still am, but given the tools i had, (impact wrench that was borrowed, 4 jackstands, 2 jacks and 4 concrete blocks, various socket wrenches and my friends e36 haynes manual) 40 hrs was about right... we took our time and did it right. there were many hiccups, like getting the passenger rear trailing arm off, as one of the bolts hits the gas line... many trips to home depot and pep boys were made for various tools.

basically i have never done anything like this before. this is the hardest thing i have ever done on a car... so time wasnt my concern.

    my weekend work schedule:

    friday - 10am to 4
    saturday - 8am to 1am
    sunday - 8am to 12
    monday - 8am to 1

the only breaks we took were for pizza and energy drinks / sodas.

it would have been so much easier if i could have dropped the subframe, but that wasnt an option.

        circa survive does rock.

Also bear in mind that kevin lives deep in suburban la costa. When the hot soccer moms decide to take their twins for a walk on his street these things take priority over ANYthing car related. If this varible was left out of the equation we could have easily done it in 37 hrs. Next time we'll close the garage door....nevermind.

"are you crazy we can't drop that bar! its supporting the whole car (subframe)" - kevin

One of the biggest problems as kevin said was the gas tank. We couldnt get one of the bolts out without moving the gas tank or the nozzle right on the tank. We got a little crazy and removed the rubber hose exposing the open tank and gas fumes. We knew with one spark we would be toast and having a hot water heater pilot light kicking on and off 6 feet away didnt help either. Everytime we would give the tank a good nudge (kick with my foot - not precious kevin's size 10.5's) we would pull a last action hero style jump out of the garage (with no apparent explosion).
        tasty

I take it you had the car supported on the jackstands on the subframe? It's easy to remove, probably would have saved you a lot of time if you did the diff as well.

No it wasnt supported on the subframe. I figured the subframe would have come off pretty easily though. To my suprise the diff was the easiest part of the whole process.

Next time u take out the diff, if you have the exhaust already out the way, you can drop the gas tank after 6 or so bolts. It's easier than it seems.

Nice work overall, car's lookin sexxay. THere's only one way to learn, by doing it your self. Don't look at somethings like a contest of time. Just get it done right like you did, experience comes with repetition and learning from mistakes.

              Cheers!

It really brings out the silver trim around the windows.

took the words out of my mouth. The DS2s go well with the silver window trim. Amazing how much a bit of lowering and a good set of rims can do... ;)

but it definetly needs the offset mounts, I wouldn't bother getting it "aligned" until then..
The car isnt completely driveable right now - that was the only justification for alignment. I'm not familiar with the offset mounts or where to get them. Elaborate a tad if you can.
the control arm bushing mounts, you can buy M3 offset rubber mounts that go in the stock brackets (probably not enough), or you can get the Treehouseracing offset mounts which are solid (not sure if they make them with more of an offset than M3 mounts or not). they will move the wheel forward..

thats beautiful... I'd tap the shit out of that... something about 5 lugs just makes an e30 look better.
