Thanks for all the props on the car.

The car has the 5 speed transmission. Typically with electric conversions people keep and prefer the manual but some do automatics and some do direct drive. The Tesla has a single speed.

The reason Tesla was breaking transmissions due to the characteristic of electric motors which provide 100% torque at 0rpm. This can break alot of parts, the transmission just happened to be the weakest link. Tesla had some high performance goals so they were making the most of the electric motor. A single speed can be made much more robust than a multi-speed transmission.

Right now my car's motor controller is dialed down to have a slower current ramp. I plan to turn it up eventually but for now it gets me to work and back without slowing anyone down or breaking parts.

LOL what is the weight of the car now. love it. Oh and is now low?
I added about 1000lb of batteries, but I have not weighed it yet. The car is sagging a bit in the back so I am looking for some stiffer springs. I used lead acid AGM batteries which are cheaper, but Lithium are the way to go if you have money. It would have tripled the cost of my battery pack to go that route.

If you made a kit I'll buy one, gas is too dam high.
I thought about making a kit, but I don't know how much interest there would be. The parts to convert the car cost about $6K. In the end I don't think I will save any money. I do love driving it though and like the idea of not using gas. I installed solar panels over the summer so now I'm running on the sun.

Looks like you did a damn nice job of it. Have anything for heat in the winter? Does range suffer in colder temps? Just curious. Like the car alot!
I skipped on anything that was not essential. No heat, no AC, no PS. I have not seen much of an impact on range due to temperature, but it has been a pretty warm winter here in NC.

This is the only video I have. It is the first time I pulled the car out of the garage.

Not too exciting. I should be getting some AutoX runs in soon.

                            Nice job!
Thanks for posting this here and for taking the effort to attach the pics here as well.

                            I have 2 questions:
1: Is the brake booster just plumbed to an electric pump? If so is it on all the time or does it kick in when vacuum falls below a certain point?

2: How do you keep the muffler bearings lubricated?

I have an electric vacuum pump for the brakes. It runs off the 156V pack. I have a vacuum switch so it only goes on when the vacuum falls below a certain level.

Muffler bearings are lubricated with the electric motor oil.
