I dunno. Ask him, he's the one who has been a BMW mechanic for 31 years, not I.

i still fail to see what the point of thinking about an engine swap is when someone doesn't even know how to give a proper point-by. LOL
Heeter, Dave isn't considering an M50 swap because it's going to make him a better driver.

CAUTION: WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ MAY BE HARD TO ACCEPT, OR UNBELIEVABLE.

Some people do modifications to their car that do not in any way shape or form affect their performance at track or autox events, but merely because it pleases them and makes them enjoy their car more, whether it be aesthetically, audibly, ergonomically, or otherwise. In short, not all modifications you do to your car have to be to make it more track worthy.

He wants to do it because it will give him a newer, more powerful engine that's arguably more fun to drive, and shit, because he can afford to. Why the FUCK not?

And NO ONE on here, NO ONE who is planning on doing anything but daily driving, would choose to buy stock springs and strut replacements to put on their car, knowing full well that the softer suspension setup and higher center of gravity are not only going to make things harder on the track, but also much less effective, and arguably less safe.

Are you too stupid, or just too much of a noob to know that Rob Maybach uninstalled his H&R cupkit for good fresh stock peices?

good stock parts are fine for auto-x. there is no need to run GC's to auto-x. alex did well before all his mods. he learned a lot and probably had a great time too.

if he wants a HPDE car, he might as well be focusing on the education. horsepower just makes up for lack of skill. and the point is to have fun and to learn, and a stock m20 is fun enough when you're going at it. more than you know because you've never done it, and niether has Dave either.

push a m20b25 car Dave, with whatever suspension, and any decent tires and say to my face you think you want to put more power in the car. you won't say it, or I will blantantly laugh in yours. there's so much car for you to learn, just KISS.

any if the man lacks the ability, the essential ability, to watch his mirrors. . . why does he need to worry aobut add more power to the mix as there is a lot of other areas to work on too. it's better to learn how to make a m20 fast being quick and smooth than buy a more powerful engine and still drive like a monkey.

and if he can afford an engine swap, he could also afford no engine swap and about ten more driving events!

OK tough guy - how many times have you been on a track? How many HPDE's have you done? What modifications have you done to your car?

Rob took out the cupkit because the cupkit SUCKS. It makes Eibach Pro-kits look like H&R races. It's merely for looks, and minimal (if any) gains in performance. And he's not talking about cars that will be used on a track:

Your attitude is right up there with the way Jordan used to be, albeit about your super skills behind the wheel on the track instead of your car. I don't give a flying fuck if you've got more seat time than me, your attitude has steered me so far from having any respect for you, your advice loses its value instantaneously.

Work on your attitude, and your approach. You are NOT a god among men here, or on the track. Start acting a bit more humble.

                      What modifications have I done?

switched chips (one came with the car)
4.10 rear end because it would be more fun and every other track rat had one, but now i think i would have been in the same shape with a 3.73 (freshmen mistake)
replaced rubber worn stock items with urethane (like bad subframe bushings and broken motor mounts)
upgraded brake pads, and changed the lines
wider tires and bigger wheels. (after growing tired of the 195s growing greasy halfway in)
srd to (replace broken stock seat, and was looking for a cloth sport seat first though)

that's about it. the rest i bought the car with (before i did an event. . . )

if i did it all again, i'd probably go for H&R race springs, bsports, stock 3.73 lsd. and spend the rest on driving school entries. and if shit went wrong, i'd replace it, but not add fifty million upgrades just because it's a track car and it'd improve the car.

i'm a whole lot more occupied with improving the driver than the car. which is the better way to do things. it may be easier and quicker to just pay for more mods, but it does more good to go the tougher way.

all the arguing you guys do to back each other up can't change the fact niether of you have driven an e30 in any form at the track, and one of you is already thinking about almost doubling the horsepower just because it'd be cool. no you no idea how much area of improvement you have to go. i'd recommend working on the point-by though. you can be slow, but to be safe, you have to watch the mirrors.

but hey, you can do what you want, just someone should be on R3V to frown on it, because it helps people out when they don't know better. if you never understand, then sign up for porsche school. . . they will place you based on car speed and not driver skill, so you can feel good about yourself whether you can drive or not. . .

in the meantime, i'll be with the same car, and no more mods, learning to improve myself and keep pushing harder and going faster, and being even smoother. even if some instructors don't have much to say, i'll find the ones who will critique me, and make me better, like a friend of mine who does TT and volunteered to help.

Start working on yours. You are completely clueless about HPDEs and yet don't want to believe or take to heart what people like Mario have to say, or others have said before him.

                        Look, sometimes Dave understands:

But apparantly, he gets forgettful and believes although he won't be able to push the m20 car to its limit, he should raise the limit and increase power anyway...

Scott, I've never had respect for you.

Try to talking to me in person and think about humility, you might be surprised. People can come off a certain way online that they don't in person. Who am I to give a royal flying fuck how some random people online think I come off? Who cares, Dave knows me and should know how I am saying it. If I say "man, you know you don't need to swap motors" in person, that'd be cool, but online it comes off as calling him out. WHO CARES! deal with it. And if he is wise enough, he'll understand hopefully and he'll see he goofed in his logic brain fart thinking about a S50. He probably just got carried away dreaming about a track rat and floated up with his ideas, and needs to be brought back down to reality.

If no one else cares to, I'll take it upon myself to help him. And that's why people hate me. But it's necessary for someone to help, SOOOO fuck it, fuck you. It's the fuckign internet.

the discussion was resolved with Dave 2 pages ago. You just rekindled the argument for some reason because you have no clue what you are talking about and just want to defend the two of you in your thinking progress. i think you're a fucking moron. but maybe you're just stubborn Scott.

and Dave, "and I am accustomed to the H&R Race - why not go with something similar in stiffness or maybe just a tad (and I do mean a tad) stiffer?"

Accustomed? How so? How many events on them? Zero?

I have buddies in the local club who have been tracking for at least three years on H&R race springs and haven't yet decided they were the weakest link. And hell, they are DAMN fast! (and yeah, that's an argument from the past, but i think the point should have been made)

                          God damn, you're arrogant.

I don't need your respect - no one has any for you, so your opinion of me means less than nothing. You don't know me, you've never met me, yet you think I'm a moron and have no respect for me.

While we were wrenching e30's, you were drinking everclear. So before you start praising the good lord for giving us almost-stock E30's and HPDE's, remember that. Maybe if it was a track event we could have dragged you from boozing.

No one else on here seems to share your opinion of me, nor anyone that's met me in person (as far as I know.) However, you've been banned for being a shitstain more times than I'd care to count.

We've gone toe to toe on here before, and I've told you how I feel about your arrogant attitude and condescending "advice," but you don't want to listen. Your 4 track days make you the best driver this side of the mississippi and you'll never change.

                            you don't know me bitch.

of course i'd rather be drinking and partying than meeting up with a few people i know, and random fucks off a damn internet board. the only worthwhile get togethers are auto-xs and track events, it cuts out a lot of the crap, like you in this thread.

you may be angry in this thread, but hopefully someday you'll do enough events so that you can see you should just left your car alone in the first place, and didn't haveta do any mods.
