It seems like a good trade to me.

The e36 m3 handles the shit out of a z4. I'd have gone for a 95, but thats just me. Turbo that bitch and you'll eat e46 m3s for breakfast.

Its all a matter of preference. Moving from the Z4 to the E36 M3 has its plusses and its minuses. going to E36 gives you more power, and increased handling(different charactoristics, i've been in both, and i think the z4 is wayyy stiff compared to the e36), also: the e36 has more room than the z4, having the backseats etc..

Also, ofcourse an e46 m3 will out perform an e36 m3, it just plainly has more power, better brakes, and suspension setup, and just the entire car as a package is better, only downer to the e46 is that it costs more.

Moving to the e36 m3 isnt really a downgrade, it is if you are concerned with age, but its still a 1999 which isnt that old at all.

Yeah e36 M3's are common, but if he was worried about being like everyone else, then he would have gotten something else..wouldnt he..

i see both sides of your arguement with abundance, power, and liking, but bottom line: its still a bmw, and still a sick ass car.

and ofcourse the cost is less, so if the cost is less, and it performs better...i think its a fair deal.
