I apologize for the link, but clicking on it will bring you to MJCRO's page where he hosted a bunch of recent pics of my touring and his m60 swapped sedan.

Blast from the past! January of 2014 I retrofitted the e30 M3 cooling system into the car. had to fab and weld in the tabs for the coolant tank, as well as the stays for the lower rad support. Used all new stuff, and even did some maintenance (water pump, thermostat, temp sensor, etc). Also had to move the battery to the trunk. Fixed some rust back there while we were at it.

How it looked when I parked it.

And then in June 2014 the car stopped running. I was on my way to work, stopped to pick up lunch. Came back to start the car, and it voila, no spark. Hooray.

I waited three hours for a tow truck to show up, but luckily there was a bar across the street. Lack of pics from this point till now, as I haven't really done anything with the car.

                  7/2015
Tossed a rebuilt DME in the car (was not triggering the ground for the IGN Coil), fired right up. Drove it home, but then the car sat again this season while I was out driving my s13. Listed the s14b23 driveline for sale. Sold the ESM OZ reps to my brother.

                  9/15

Sold the s14b23 driveline to a user on here, full turn key swap including the recent cooling system. Car is meant to be my daily, and I figured a 24v swap would be nice and stress free. I was overly paranoid that I'd blow up the s14b23 that I could never really just enjoy the car.

My business partner acquired an e36 M, Daytona Voilet over Grey. Car had a the original (US) S50b30 in it, and he said I could have the driveline since he intends to swap the car. There was a catch, however. The cyl head was off the bottom end for the better part of 9 years. Engine condition unknown. Still had coolant in the jackets and oil in the pan. I have pics somewhere, showing the patina and how far disassembled the car was.

                    10/15

Car sat AGAIN while I worked on the s50, and a few customer cars in between.

Put a reconditioned head and a VR masker gasket kit at the engine. Had the original S50 cams still, which were in immaculate shape. Had to purchase new cam trays though, AS I somehow managed to lose the originals. When we finally gott the S50 put together we filled the tank with a bit of 93, applied voltage to the fuel pump, cranked it a few times and it woke right up. There is a vid of the test fire on my shop instagram (@functionmotorsports), I can't seem to find the file on my phone.

Did the x20 to C101 wiring using a Pinout found here on R3v. Used the e36 m3 harness and the grey label 506 DME. The donor car has a production date of 6/94, which is OBD1 NON Ews.

Pulled the s50b30 out of the e36M, both of which are now in storage for later use.

Got the engine mounted in the car using revshift mount bushings. Quickly realized how much work the wiring will need to fit under the factory e30 covers.

Getting closer. Starting de looming the e36 harness, and massaging it to fit like OE in the e30. Moved the diagnostic port to the OE e30 location. Just had to extend 4 wires.

Raided my basement and found a few hundred $ worth of new parts.. Mostly clips and mounting hardware. Also found some rear shock mounts, new front strut gland nuts, Sway bar links, and 3 gallons of brand new BMW concentrate. Going to come in handy!

Rolled the car outside to clean because I've made a terrible mess inside my shop. Looked at it and decided it was time to lower the car and tighten the suspension.

Bought an H&R cup kit from Nico, which included new top hats. Bought Revshift 80A Poly RTABS, FCABS, and 12mm subframe risers everywhere. Fought with the rear subframe, but I won. Also replaced the rotted brake hardlines, and replaced the rubber hoses with stainless braided units. Got new control arms, tie rods, etc. No pics because I never want to re-live that mess again.

                          Before, on car dollies.

                          Set on the ground after:

Exhaust stuff started showing up! 3" 304 stainless steel pipes to two stainless Magnaflow mufflers, a v-band clamp and 304 stainless O2 sensor bung.

Rear muffler set on the e36 heat shield to give a frame of reference. This thing should be whisper silent!

                              Before:

After! We were going to attempt making a brand new unit that uses a large panel filter, but it was not possible without deleting the ABS. We are now working on a sealed "box" for the pod filter that will seal against the hood. Got the E-fan wired to push air, and managed to keep the radiator duct.

Made a few new things, like new tabs for the coolant tank (had to move it backward .5") and a new power steering res mount. Factory e30 location was in the was of the intake hose, and the OE e36 position is stupid. Their cooling system is stupid also, which is why we decided to keep the self bleeding coolant tank from the s14b23 which feeds behind the head, and down directly into the block.

My business partner also decided to make an anchor tab for the aluminum 90* bend for the pod filter, as well as the upper radiator bracket for this e36 radiator. Its 3/16" aluminum with some lovely dimple dies. More for style than anything else.
