    The FREe30: A brief history.

I've never really made a build thread because I haven't done much "building" to this car yet. Since I have owned it I have pretty much just been getting it up to good, stock, reliable condition. Recently I have been working on the cosmetics.

I feel like I've finally gotten it some what respectable looking so I thought I would post a little before and after progress thread. I will let the pictures do most of the talking.

    Where I found the car.

Where I swapped the motor for a good running one for a whopping $70

    Got some clean door panels

    Cleaned up some engine stuff.

Some creative lighting to pass inspection.

    Installed a new wheel bearing

Car looking rough with its new vulva lip (Thanks to N2MYE30)

Car looking good when you can see pretty much nothing but its outline

Made a Europlate with a hint toward the purchase price of the car.

Couldn't figure out that my AFM was bad and had to trailer the car home 4 hours after I graduated from college.

Replaced most all the bushings up front

New brake stuff all the way around

Recycled some other e30s body parts to help mine out

Made some new door handles (For sale)

    Fixed Central Locking

Got the body cleaned up and primed

Wrapped it (Search "wrap it before you tap it" for complete thread on wrap)

Chrome badging seemed out of place so..

    Looking better

First real car wash since I've owned the car. (Over a year of ownership at this point)

    Getting low

And in the last couple weeks I think she has improved tremendously in the looks department. I'm finally turning heads for the right reasons.

And today I got it out for a wash and wax. Also installed a bike rack I bought from deansbimmer on here. Great seller.

I've got an IS lip from Blunttech waiting to go on and some fog lights for the front valance. There are still a lot of little things to do on the outside like wrap all the jams, get new side markers, do something about the exhaust, and so on. The interior is a little better than when I got it but the dash is still cracked (have a replacement) and the sport seats are jacked up but I drive her daily and love it.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pics!

you did good! I like the transformation, if I may ask how much did it cost for the entire car wrapped?

Since I wrapped it myself I only incurred material costs. I bought $333 worth of vinyl (3 60"x5yrd sample rolls) and I still have about 3yrds left. I believe another member here said he paid $2k to have his wrapped with similar material. I wouldn't consider doing it to someone else's car for less than $1500.

I am not a fan of the stretched look. These required some heaving hammering of the rear fenders though. Didn't do it before I put the tires on so they each got cut up a little. But live and learn haha.

Thanks man, weren't you considering buying the car from me one of the many times I put it up for sale and then changed my mind?

What does it say on the roof of your car in the last picture?
Currently, it says "Wrap it before you tap it." Its there to cover a flaw I made in the vinyl. I've been trying to come up with something else to put there but its worked out because its what people remember the car by. I get asked all the time. "Hey, aren't you the guy with wrap it before you tap it written on your roof?"

Thanks for the positive feedback guys!
