Can you share any info on your new intercooler? I'm curious.

Intercooler from ebay
Bar and Plate Intercooler Core size: 550mm x 225mm x 64mm
Overall Length 710mm
57mm(2.25'')or 64mm(2.5") Inlet and Outlet
Maximum Pressure: 45psi
Should fit in there right up front nice and high so will get airflow through the kidney and front upper grill area. Boost pipes should be able to sneak in under the headlamps.
Here is what was in there from a sierra Rs500 been split in two and new end cans. Not a bad core but placement with total lack of air flow behind headlight still got both lamps and double thickness the rear core would have been getting hardly any airflow not that the front core got much through a few 10mm holes drilled in the headlight support. Loads of timing being pulled due to high intakes.

Looks like luck was in got clearance not much but it is clear.
Started to fit up my intercooler, but it is very tight in there. Much tighter than this one, thought what I had was identical to this one but it isn't and dont think I am going to get it to fit. Have eve got rid of some of the metal on the bumper support lip but still wont squeeze in there.

Ok I can see what the problem is with my intercooler. It is the same physical size as the above one but the inlet/outlet are too near the bottom of my one thus pushing it too high into the bonnet support. I think the one we need is IC0037 from cx racing. Notice how my one the middle of the pipe is around the 3rd row the black one is around the 6th row.

Also, at the tightest point it is about 3mm from the triangle section on the turret. I am going to get the downpipe ceramic coated do you guys think that there is enough clearance otherwise I need to dent it before getting the coating done. From memory I dont think the engine moves around much on the mounts. Anyone else running with tight clearances? The coating is only .3mm
BTW CX racing who do the intercooler have 12% off at the moment but shipping seems expensive with them.Last edited by scoobydo; 11-25-2014, 10:14 AM.

Was going to wrap the downpipe but dont have the clearance as wrap is 1.5mm thick so 3mm at best with the half overlap. I just dont have the clearance to do this. Wrapping in the this area I think is ok as it will burn off moisture quickly. Got a company in the UK called Zircotec they coat it by "welding" the coating to the subject piece. Not a bad price either.

not quite original:), was altered in the lates 80's early 90's but nothing that spoils it in my eyes. Not many left (1 other being restored in the UK and possibly another that was in good condition but hasnt been seen for a while)there are a few in SA and one being restored over there. Beyond that not many left think one was found in Japan recently.
Mine would be difficult to go back to factory standard but everything has been done sympathically.

Spent a bit of time clearing kids toys from garage so I now have room to work on it in the garage, have put it in the air as well so can work underneath.
Test fit of cx racing intercooler will be moving it up about 15mm so most of it is behind the kidneys/grille just need to grind the right hand mount down a bit
Also made a bit more clearance on the downpipe.
