wow did you already have these pictures. Have looked around and the pump seems like not available. Sump available but very expensive as was the actual pump itself. Thought it was going to be easier than this.

The pics were taken an hour ago.
You should go to Want To Buy ads for the oil pan and dip stick.

Well thanks for that, that is good service. How rare are the Alpina pans and you manage to not only have one that is off the car but also have an e34 pan to take a picture of. Quality.

Done a bit more on the car.

Took of sump and confirmed that I can put the shorter style oil pick up on.

Looking in very good condition with no sludge or varnish and evidence of balancing. Waiting for a second hand sump and oil pick up.

Still watching on the good progress! Any luck finding a e32 or e34 m30 oil pan? In the US they usually sell for $100.

Did have one or so I thought, hence I started the job but just seen the pictures and it is the wrong one.

hopefully they will come back to me with the correct one otherwise I am in trouble.

Breakers yard has not got the sump oil pickup. So still looking to get one. Finished work early today so stripped the radiator out and took some more photos. What do you guys reckon on the core of the intercooler in respect to what is available now? Obviously a lot of advantage is going ot be had by having in front as opposed to the current placement behind the headlights.

Also thinking whilst at it perhaps I should be getting a manifold from Otis Good&Tight, what do you guys reckon?

Looks like going to have to make some space by the suspension turret if I am to keep what I have.

comparision of Alpina and e28 rad

                  Alpina mount position

                  clearance needed

                  folded intercooler

I have both of Good&Tight turbo m30 manifolds. One is hand made by Otis and the other is made for him in China. Both are great piece of work.

If you can't find the oil pan in the UK. You should do a Want To Buy ad on r3v. The pan usually cost $100 dollars. The shipping will not be cheap.

Thanks Raul. My manifold would cure all of his fitment issues with spark plug access and shock tower clearance.
That 333i is a rare car, surprised to see how poor the turbo fitment is, did it come from the factory like that?

Right that's it G&T has spoken I am having a manifold. The turbo conversion was done back in the late 80's early 90's after the car was imported to the UK. Will need some advice on the waste gate side. Currently boost control is via a bleed valve arrangement how will I manage that if I go for the update? My engine management is Zytek from the 80's no boost control there. Can live with the spark plug clearance as now a non issue as I have a Sealey thin wall socket with 1/4 inch adapter. Really want to get it back on the road and develop it from there but might get stuck on some bits and be off road for ages. So many decisions. I have a friend who travels to from NY so he will be able to help with getting parts to me. I do have a shop nearby that specialises in ally welding so hopefully good on some of the fabrication work.

You will need a 44mm v-band wastegate and a T4 based turbo to make it it fit correctly.
Are you able to tune with the current engine management?

Yes am able to adjust fuelling and timing on the current ECU. It has 16 load and currently 16 speed sites, however I can increase speed sites to 255 for better resolution. It has a 3Bar MAP sensor, and the ability to offset on both coolant temp and intake temp (pull timing). See below tables (red bits were errors in the map from when it was last mapped professionally in 1996 but I have since corrected them). Car made 450bhp and 520 lbs back then so quite a healthy output back in the 90's but guess things have moved on. I have no idle control as such on my ecu other than a trim pot, but idle seems emissions are fine. Idle speed is controlled by a mechanical bypass that closes the bypass thus less air getting to the intake side of the manifold, it also has a screw that you set for the final idle speed.

                              4th gear 20 to 125 mph

Could be tempted for a new turbo if someone can get me something suitable at a good price:)

had a result on the sump, oil pickup and dipstick

Here is the radiator and the distance from the front valance, seems to stick out quite a way.

Lip of radiator is this normal (not an original BMW part) the crimped edge losses you quite a few mm.
