Bet an ix is a TON of fun in the winter! Does your state salt the roads? here in NY your car would be ruined in a few years.

Yes on both. Bought it from NJ 10 years ago with 140,000 miles. Now has 255,000. I have been sanding, coating and replacing stuff as needed. My wife refers to it as "The tank" because of its performance in the snow. Unreal. The salt and now that liquid crap they are putting down is making it hard to keep up though.

liquid calcium chloride or a mix of liquid magnesium chloride which just eats cars. Liberally coating the underside with a good old grease or oil bath will help keep out the crude.

sweet! even though I don't doubt it's "tank" abilities, I prefer RWD in snow ;)

Gratuitous So Cal opposite weather post

That's nothing, last night I had to put the seat warmer in the convertible on 'low' when the temp dropped below 72. For a moment I thought about putting the top up too.

I cant imagine how awesome an IX would be in the snow. A standard e30 with good snows is a riot to drive. My e12 is a beast in the snow. But yeah... Constant sanding, priming and painting to keep it somewhat solid

I'm sure an IX is great with snow tires and a few inches of snow... but past 5" or so don't you think ground clearance would be an issue?

Just saying, I'd rather have a jeep or something for the snow.

never an issue for me....and i'm usually driving from NYC to Vermont every other wkend. My old B5 A4 was pretty low on coilovers, and w/ Blizzaks it drove through anything (granted I replowed most roads).

My iX i've taken through over 2ft of snow when we had a blizzard yrs back. No issues at all....and the pics below was w/ just regular all-seasons. I'm running dedicated snow tires now, and there hasn't been anything I can't get through.

I'm on summer tires and the iX is continuing to amaze me each time it snows. It does better than my Ranger used to do, by far.

We keep getting dustings of snow and every time they call for anything significant it just rains. Real cool Ohio.
