Yeh pretty excited. Just trying to weight up whether to go with M44 rods and S50 pistons for M42 rods and custom light weight pistons, I think the latter will end up with less rotational mass.
Also for reference the M42 crank weighs 14.5kg and the M47 is 15.7kg. With some Knife edging and lighting I should be able to loose 2-3kg of weight.
BMW M47 Crank, picked it up from a guy in Melbourn.
Best part is it only cost me $700 was an absolute steal.sigpicComment

How much additional stroke do you get? Not much info in my 30second search

going from 81mm to 88mm, meaning I go from 1.8lt to 2.1lt and about 200whp once I am done.sigpicComment

Maybe my math is off, but I got ~1950cc with the 88mm crank. Either way, that will be a nice bump in displacement. I know you mentioned custom pistons, so I will assume thats where the additional .1L is coming from. Should be a blast, I love seeing engine builds that break the norm.
What else do you have in mind to get you to double the stock M42 power output? headwork + cams?Simon

yeh I will be boring out to 87mm for the pistons.
looking at using M44 valves they have a smaller steam. Probably go some new valve sprints and upgrade the cams. Not sure on the profile yet.
As far as porting goes, not planning to go crazy, just want to match the ports smooth out the transitions and contemplating on shaving down the valve guides to match the port walls.
as for the intake I am going to go with RHD engineering ITB
Here is a thread about there development
and finally RHD also do a 3kg fly wheel which I will use as well. Combined with MSV3 I should have not worries reaching 200whpsigpicComment

wow, that is going to be a fun car! 87mm bore and 88mm stroke, I love it! a built (almost) square motor. should be a riot. I will be watching for updates.Simon
