I'm building a boosted 2.7L seta using an m50 starter, e36m3 flywheel and clutch......in a g260. you're g260 won't damage the motor, use it if you have it. what diff do you have?

I'm pretty sure it's a 2.93 open, although I'm shopping around for a 3.73 LSD. If I remember correctly I'd have to use an E36 M3 clutch, which is fine, I was going to anyways whether I went S52 or M30.

I plan on running headers, full exhaust, a tune and maybe some cams, wanting to be about 260-275hp in a perfect world

So what do you guys think? An S52 for $1500 that I'll get in December, and I'm doing my buddy a favor. Or an M30 for about the same in June

idk dude tough choice. M30 will be a complete swap for 1500 where as the s52 will have extras on top of the cost of the engine.Comment

Don't know, haven't really shopped around for one, was probably gonna pull out of a junked car and pull it apart
But 240hp? And 24v parts are cheaper. And the deal I'm getting on it?

Plus I know more about the S5x platform due to my dad's M3. I've never even seen an M30 in person

first..... 2.93 would be better for a zf, 3.73 is g260 territory. Keep doing research your dollar figures are a little off on swaps.sigpic

How so if I may ask? And per your previous comment about the 260 being able to handle the power, I don't have a need for a ZF.

well if you have the g260 you'll want the 3.73. I was just pointing out the gear ratio and what would work better with each. Cost wise I bet you could do an m30 swap for about $1500 if your mechanically inclined. It really depends on what you have, what you still need and what your power goals are. 24v swaps are a load of fun, just helped with one a few months ago, I like the 12v m20/m30, more period correct and cheap..er...ish to boost.sigpic

I had read somewhere an M30 runs between 800-1300, and I have basically budgeted 2-2.5k for both swaps (due to the price I'm getting on the S52) I don't really understand where my costs are off for the swaps?
