Excellent! Great to see this one was saved from a potential part-out. Keep up the good work!

That's an impressive and tidy repair! What was the total cost in the end?

I'm sure as shit glad you bothered to fix this ;)

Quality work, it looks like the body shop did a great job! I'm curious about your headliner install, a new headliner is on my To Do list here at some point.

Big day today fellas. Got it back from the body shop.

Only two weeks and they fixed the roof and the quarter. Back glass was fitted to check and it's all good.

Beyond stoked with the repair, can't even tell where they welded. The only section that had to be removed was the outer C pillar skin.

Absolutely over the moon about it. So excited to start on this.

I'm making a video series about the build on our youtube channel.

    First video is up at

    The deconstruction begins

So! It's time to take stuff apart to prepare for the roof repair.

It's taken me a long ass time to do this work. I'm being 300% careful with everything, and so am bagging and tagging every nut and bolt that comes off. It gets labelled with what it is and where it goes, taped to the item it secures (if applicable) and is deposited underneath the house with the stuff from the parts cars.

It's a real mess under there, but I do have my system with storage so hopefully it'll all be pretty easy to put back together once it's done.

Basically the goal of this was to remove the headliner so we can see what's going on with the C pillar.

To remove the headliner, basically everything that touches the roof in one way or another has to come out.
That means all glass, complete sunroof, all trim, everything.

The end result: delicious iS spec headliner removed intact.
Unfortunately the sunroof part didn't make it due to tearing when I touched it. Hot Australian summers take their toll.
May end up fitting a CAtuned black headliner anyway.

All the sunroof shit I had to remove. Going to be a nightmare to replace. Do have new sunroof cables to fit though, which is dandy as the ones I removed had heaps of cracks in the plastic slider bits.

And here's the bit that I really needed to see: the inner C pillar skins. They're not bent badly at all which is really promising.

Basically the plan is for the panel beater to section the outer skin and remove that, put the thing on his laser aligner thing and pull the roof to correct position, then weld in the replacement C pillar skin that I have.

Take note r3v, this is how you do a part out. The remnants of the 318i that I cut up. Everything else was used.

So that's that. Now I wait for my R32 Skyline to be done with paint so I can work out if I have enough money to get the roof done.

    We out here makin progress

Started deconstructing the interior to assess the damage to the inside skin of the C pillar. Looking good so far however

    Wow that's fucking tragic.

I would assume the truck's insurance should pay out for your car?

This makes me feel less like a paranoid nutjob for cutting a bunch of dead looking branches off the tree in front of my house that hung over my driveway and where I park on the street.

yep, sorry to say that's dead :(

HUGE job to replace the turret with C pillar and side panel, most likely the bracing underneath it is all bent as well. You would basically need to transplant the roof off another car with pillars.. Would be less work re-shelling it and painting it. You would have to do a full respray anyway after repairing that.
