S38 is basically an S14 with 2 more cylinders.. it's not going to be cheaper than an S14. :p

                Never really saw him again.

Not to be a dick but he was about 17 years old i think. I talked with him for a bit and you could just tell he didn't know anything about working on cars nor did he have the skills nor resources to undertake a restoration project as in depth as this.

I hate the fact that you were THE lucky one to get away with an M3 that cost you 2500, but I love the fact that someone is going to put in the well deserved and well needed wrench time to restore it. please keep us posted on progress.

i have a feeeling i'm going to get shot at pretty soon because i'm going to be tresspassing in everyones back yard or private property trying to find an m3...

I thought i had a similar story to yours, a family friend saw my e30 and said 'hey i have one of thouse in my back yard that i use to use for parts, its an m3', he said and if i wanted i can come take it...holding back my excitement i said hell yea...get there and its a 86 es with an m3 badge....i wanted to choke the shyt out him but it wasn't his fault he wasn't a big car guy but i was crushed...lol

Great find! Go with an S54 swap and you won't regret it.

I'm going to look at a 90' M3 zinna/black with no motor on Friday. No rust. Full interior and suspension. Hoping I can score it for under $8k so I can build another S54 beast.
