Ok that makes sense. I'm curious if the longer hose reduces it's effectiveness to capture blowby though. Seems like a lot of it would just get caught in the hose. I'll admit I'm a noob when it comes to catch cans though.

no, i have my wilwood brake bias valve mounted there. I love the simplicity of the way its routed right now and will leave it be. It didn't have any issues at all yesterday and the short/straight lines are appealing and probably more effective. I didn't have any issues with coolant temps on track yesterday granted it was cooler than last event by 10 degrees, but the needle on both gauges did not budge even after I did 4 runs back to back. I think the hood vent and spacing the hood up worked phenomenally. The real test will be next summer, but so far so good!

I had mine up in the battery tray prior, and didn't like how long the hose was. I had the hose routed over the motor, so yours is a slightly better location than my previous setup, but I need to keep that location clear for possible boost application in the future hopefully! I like how if there's any problems with the hose, i can take off the 180 bend and reconnect the other hose bypassing it all simply. The one downfall of this setup currently is I was planning on making a custom fan shroud which will be in the way of the hoses now. I talk about a lot of future mods here, but I think I want to figure out what's needed first and foremost which would probably go: e36 m3 extended lca's (slr speed, but most likely will need larger flares to accommodate extended track - longer than e46 lca's), then chase bays powersteering cooler kit with -an lines (or something custom/similar), then a 2 or 3 quart accusump. I'd also love to get a fuel surge tank, but I have just been taking the car to the track on a full tank and haven't suffered any starvation issues yet thankfully. turning this more into a track-prepped street car I suppose. Not looking forward to the accusump because I'm running about 10-10.5 qts of oil with the oil cooler and slightly overfilled for track use, so 13-14qts of oil is gonna be expensive. The first event I did in the car in 2018 I had some valve train noise towards the end of the day that eventually went away, but still something I don't look forward to hearing again if possible. I also have an achilles oil pan baffle in the e34 pan, which should help the sloshing around, but it.'s not enough.

Once i get some photos from the event yesterday and hopefully some gopro footage I'll post up some thoughts/comments on yesterdays track day.

Yeah, I ran out of time to mess with the setup, I don't want to pay for the hose lengths twice if I end up cutting a piece too short now, (-12 is pretty pricey). I ended up finding some -12 aeroquip "socketless" hose from a scrapped project of mine, and i ordered some new hose connectors (should be in by monday) so I'm just going to run this setup at this event tomorrow and see how it does, I added some DEI heat shielding onto the hose to try and block the radiant heat. I think this hose will actually be just fine as-is because it's not actual oil flowing through the whole time, but primarily vapor. I'm going to order about 2' more of this to match upper and lower hoses, and I think i'm done. I've been actually thinking of switching to an obd1 valve cover so I can weld on an -AN bung for a future catch-can setup, but if I'm paying for -AN lines it will be something way more useful like fuel lines or power steering. so i'm definitely going to hold off after I get the new parts and do more research. I'm currently running the 42 draft design "stealth" catch can, and if i recall correctly it has 4 screen filters inside, so hopefully it does something! I'll drain the can after the event tomorrow and see if it collected a significant amount.

This will be the first weekend of dedicated uninterrupted car time. gonna be nice.
I put pressure on the fender trying to squeeze through the garage (when it was parked in the single side) and i dented the fender  it looked like this

The white fender was pulled off a 89 or 90 sedan, it had 3 imperfections on it, 2 vertical creases (from doors i'm guessing?) and a huge dent on the fender lip (which got cut off for flares). so this fender is not perfect, just marginally better. I ended having to use a slide hammer on it to look right near the headlight. I'm not even sure if this is an oem fender to be quite honest. I'm pretty sure I'll be on the look out for another fender if one pops up locally, kind of upset it looked so good at the junkyard and to find all these issues post purchase. white fenders + dirt = hard to tell! oh well, looks good enough for now!

I took off the hood today, and tried to mask off the vent and prime/paint it with vht high-temp. between coats I replaced the hood hinge rod. My old rod didn't have the plastic bushings and the plastic washers on the hinge to actual mount and anyways, it fits a lot more snug, before there was a little play/wobble

compared to the photo in my last post, it looks a bit more acceptable at least!

edit: I threw the catch can back in, (new location) threw in a couple rivnuts and stainless hardware to mount it up, (this is just kind of a rough mock up with heater hose. I'm going to end up ordering some vibrant heater hose that can put up with the oil and heat better especially since it's sitting directly behind the radiator. The film of oil in my intake boot got me worried last time since I'm not running an osv either. I like this location much better than previous, the hoses aren't swooping up in any areas really so I feel it'll be a lot more efficient.

so I put the newly acquired white fender on really just out of curiousity - thinking it was the old fender causing the fitment issues - but it's not. When I had the fender off, the frame rail looked fine, didn't see any kinks or damage there. Kind of confusing, hood is adjusted so it's all the way back. (oh i also spaced the rear of the hood up....because. rice.) I might swap the hood hinge (bar) over with a spare I happen to have. I have a weird idea that this might be the issue. you can see the hood is a little more than 1/4" forward on the driver side. Would love to get this sorted out, after that I can sort out paint-matching the fender and flares (still might upgrade to larger flares, and extended e36 m3 lca's as planned)

meanwhile i've got my spares ready for the next event, even though I might have to just do the wet track to keep it in budget (thanks to the e39 for fucking that up).

jeenyus - good progress man, I haven't had time to tackle this yet. Been super busy with work and trying dealing with this post...lol

I was trying to keep this thread e30 only content for a while, and I was doing a good job for a bit too, but this is just so ridiculous I need to post/vent about it....So last week Friday on the way to my 3rd gig of the day I ended up getting stranded in a construction zone. I blame the raiders stadium nearby. There is a stretch of road near the stadium that is 600ft and has 6 uneven metal plates on the ground from construction. The metal plates are driven into the asphalt with what looks like rail road spikes....but they're not sitting flush, and sticking out over an inch in some places.

If there's traffic in the left lane and you're stuck in the right lane like I was, you're aimed at 24 of these heads (12 on ea side of vehicle) sticking out of the plates. moving traffic in that area was about 30-35mph...which leads to this

    ^LF and then this LR

also my m5 rep bumper side brackets broke off clean on the left side and broke 2 of the 4 prongs on the right. super fun times while you're trying to get to work. So I abandoned the car for a couple hours in a nearby lot, went to work and then had my brother meet me with some of my tools. I ended up going to a 24hr tire shop to get a used tire since I got rid of all my 17" spares recently. I talked to insurance, and I'm going to try to get reimbursed from the city instead of filing a claim through insurance since it's a $500 deductible, and my rate would probably increase post-claim. So now it's the waiting game to hear back from the city.

After assessing the damage to the bumper a couple days later, I decided to get some plastic epoxy and just booger it on since it's a rep bumper anyways. New brackets would not have fixed this anyways. A local e30 buddy of mine hooked me up with some e60 style 124's. (18x8+20 18x9+32) with some nexen tires (245/40 & 265/35). Thank goodness for the few bmw friends i have locally. I couldn't really afford anything more than this with paying health insurance the same week. I actually think they look great. I have 20mm spacers up front and 18mm in the rear (same spacers i used to rock the mpars before...reduces hub size from 74.1 to 72.56.

I should have left it at this ride height, but i'm super sick of the car bottoming out at the casino parking garages for work. I took out the preload off the coilover springs so there was actually a ton of adjusting i had to do. I feel like i'm probably back at stock ride height now. It actually might be better here in case I want to sell this thing (been thinking about selling it and getting a truck sometime in 2020 - it just makes more sense for all the hauling and transporting the mini bikes - it just doesn't make sense for all the trips I make out to socal)

Anyways, the wagon needs an alignment still, and a small checklist of things to do now. About a month ago one day after work my driver side window regulator took a crap on me, and I had to replace it on a Friday before work that evening. It's been a stress case for sure. Luckily I did the passenger side about a year ago and it was really straight forward.

And lastly....i got a new custom knob made for the e30. I wanted something similar to my last one but with aluminum threads instead of into straight wood. I also had it made out of a slightly darker wood to match the Nardi's mahaganey. I think it looks phenomenal.

Hopefully I'll have the e30 ready for Oct. 13th vegasdrift @ LVMS inside road course. I'm really looking forward to that.
