    91 E30 318is slicktop

Here is my 91 (build date early 90) 318is slicktop. It is still a work in progress and it is a slow going project but it is getting done. I daily drive about 25 miles each way to work and it is a blast to drive.

I have new impact strips, window moulding, badges and some other goodies but not putting them on until I find the time to spray the car (going back to sterling silver). I work on BMW's and a few other makes for a living so it is all getting done correctly, just slowly since I don't have much free time.

It has all new bushings, mounts, driveshaft, etc... IT has been chipped, lightened a little bit, and other commen E30 mods.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Wish mine was a slicktop, and in such good shape. What did you do to lighten it?

I'm glad you're going back to silver, not a fan of flat black, still looks a lot better than my hooptie though

      Turbocharge it.

Sterling silver is a very beautiful color for a 318is. I'm also glad you go back to it, because that matte black makes the car look so cheap.

To give you some motivation... :)

The body was in great shape when I bought the car, not a spot of rust anywhere on it or under it. The suspension was a bit tired as was the drivetrain but that stuff is easy.

The flat black is actually dark blue pastidip that was sprayed on after I did the bodywork to the car, so I didnt have to drive a multicolored car to work everyday while I wait for time to use the paint booth for my car. I can not wait until I can peel this stuff off but I like it better than primer spots all over. Hopefully I will have it sprayed within a couple weeks.

I just did the normal lightening stuff most do on their e30s. Removed tar in the cabin and then put the carpet back in, gutted the trunk of the spare and everything else in it, lightweight battery, exhaust has been releived of the heavy stock cat. That pretty much it. I didnt want to gut my interior since it is my daily and it is in excellent condition except the drivers seat has some cracking. Even the dash is perfect and crack free.

The car is being turbo'd this week, although not to 17lbs like you, that is awe inspiring. Mine will be a sedate 9lbs but should make it fun enough for drives.

Thanks for the inspiration Nai, great shots.
