i could order most any in-stock wheel today from tirerack and it could be here tommorrow, south bend is so close.

but it's clear why wheels like Koseis WERE, or Team Dynamics are popular with tracking people... cheap, easily replaced, strong, light. RS's are potentially repairable, harder to find, not cheap, and light.

and not every damaged wheel is repairable, might have to be replaced

Look at what the Japs do: on their Time Attack cars (a class of racing you seem to aspire to one day emulate) they run super lightweight, expensive rims (TE37s/CE28Ns/CP035-Rs/most Enkeis).

Time Attack cars are not just the all-out machines like C-West's S2k and HKS's Carbon Evo, there are street class road cars like the Mine's R34 which see regular street duty. Kids in Japan are building cars to the same kinda specs as these cars and driving them, much like weekend warrior rides like your own or Dave's "E30 Rat". They don't have 12+ replacement rims ready to go, most of the guys only drive to the track in their car, with a basic tool kit for support. It ain't as glorified as you think in the street class scene.

Sure, BBS no longer make the RS, but as Shakey said you can get them repaired (and upsized) easily. Many of the best-quality lightweight rims are expensive and "bling" as you say. Look at Volk GT-Cs or the Nismo 5-spoke rims, perfect examples of that. But you've gotta ask yourself: form or function? If its function you want, you're best to go for the lightest wheel possible that'll still allow adequate brake cooling.

What it comes down to is that this guy has a set of kick-arse, rare rims that are fucking light and were designed for a motor sport application (Group A touring cars), but have been surpassed with the march of time. I can't believe that you get your frilly panties knotted up your arse just because some people think it'd be cool to use them how they were intended, rather than just parading around on them like a fucking rice-fag poseur.

function for DEs is anything. as long as it works, it is good. 14x6.5, 14x6 (like Dave), whatever. no reason to go extreme if you are not going to win anything or have a lacking....
