Back to the auction car topic..

I am too one of people fortunate enough to have seen this car in person. It's flawless. Started as a '91 318iS, he completely stripped and restored it in a very similar vein as Jordan did to his car. The thing is SPOTLESS in every crevice, and almost every part is brand new (he one-upped Jordan on that).

Raffa (the humble owner and builder) has actually told me that he would never do the S38 again. While it was great to stay period correct and such, he says it's just way too much of a headache to install compared to a 24v (which he has also done may of for customers), and it's actually far too much power for an E30. He said it's just too extreme of a swap.

One man's opinion though. I love that car.

Same here, I looked at him odd when he said it to me.

I spent some time with a S/C S52 E36 M3 that couldn't hook up in 3rd with 265 tires this past weekend. I would probably kill myself driving that everyday, but it IS quite fun!

Due to availability I will probably be going with JUST a 3.6L S38, so it should be somewhat managable.

          I do want the Getrag-D 6-SPD though :)

Thats a better move... 3.6's are typically less abused than 3.8's.

For the one who asked... its a Zender front apron.
            Below the radar...

although most people just say its a s14 with two more cylinders, obviously theres more to it than that, but what makes you say its a bomb, while you obviously dont think the s14 is?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

3.8 is a more high-strung engine. It is therefore more prone to greater effects of "spirited" use. 3.6's arent as abused, and often times, owned by people not looking to driving the living life out of the car.

We've serviced many M88's... the single row timing chain is a POS. Anyone who converts BACK to a single row is foolish. When those snap... good bye motor. It took forever to source parts for the engine when we rebuilt it. We waited over a month for the proper shims to arrive from germany, as the normal s38 shims are not the same. BTDT, now know why people who buy low mileage grey market imports NEVER drive them. As with all real motorsport engines... without proper maitenance, its a ticking time bomb.
