First of all thanks for all the positive feedback, everyone. Its nice to know that some people can appreciate what I'm going for.
About the ride height.... the GCs are bottomed in the rear, and its sitting on uneven ground, so yeah, it looks a little uneven. If I can find a pic I took from the other side, you'll see its a bit lower. Not to mention I had to bring it down an inch or so more just to compensate for the early rear arches. From what I can tell, and what I've seen, I'm every bit as low as the plastic bumpered cars(perhaps lower), but the aerodynamics of the early cars are fairly subdued so it's not going to look as crazy as you later guys with your reiger lips.
As far as the ET and spacing, this car is nowhere near a performer, and I love the euro look, so stance is key. The wheels are the same as Fuzz's - Borbet Type T 16x9 ET15 (toyo T1-S 215/40) with a 5mm spacer up front for clearance(wheel was against strut housing otherwise) which gives the front minimal poke. To even it out, a 20mm was used out back. I eyeballed it, and luckily, it came out perfect.
yes, my camber all around is uber fucked. I was waiting to align it after the next round of lowering(and M3 CABs/control arms/tie rod ends)... as the rear sat right but the front was still over an inch too high. The GCs have been modified further, but at this point the car had to be raised because the bilstein sports are just not short enough. If you ever were pulled around in a radio flyer as a kid, and remember the ride quality, you'll know how it feels to ride in this car with the stance pictured. So. I did some research and a local guy, DaveCN, helped me figure a solution. Within a week, I should have my suspension sorted and an alignment. Now, if the tires are still decent and if the car can even be aligned anywhere near decent, thats another story. If not, fuck it. From what I hear, these toyos supposedly wear so badly that the treadwear number should be in hours.
As you can tell, I'm obsessive, with little care for the function of this vehicle. But I love the car for what it is, and enjoy it, so that's why I'm here.
Also... the paint sucks, I have dings and scratches everywhere, there are areas of filler and such that still need sanding, and so on. The chrome is staying for this first color change, because it'll really set off the effect I'm going for.
Not KW springs, for who was asking.... Ground Control "semi coilovers" with the lighter of the two spring rate choices, and bilstein sports. The front bilsteins are for sale, only have been on the car a month when it wasn't this low. Being replaced with 91 Corrado G60 Bilstein Sports, only available through Neuspeed. Having suspension travel up front at the pictured height will be so nice.
Rear fender lips were hammered vertical with a plastic hammer, then coated with POR-15. I rub out back on hard bumps, but not as bad as my GTI did. Front doesn't rub at all, and the caster up there is UNREAL.
I like it.. it's amazing how much better diving board cars look without those awful, awful foglights & tucked bumpers. honestly, I like it exactly as it is - the only thing I'd add is MHW smoked tails.
