Just a suggestion, but if you’re gonna do a manual swap you could use a 6-speed from a diesel E46 320d. I think that would give you a good highway gear with the 4.10 diff. I haven’t looked into that swap too much so I don’t know what driveshaft you’d need, but there’s some info about it on the forum here somewhere.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll look into it. I see g260’s for sale from time to time, but it’s hard for me to snag one with 150k+ miles and throw it in mine that has such low miles. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

It looks like the ratios in the diesel 6-speed aren't ideal at all (only suggested it because it has the correct mounting angle for the M20). https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=403128

I'm sure you could find a rebuilt G260.

Wanted to update the pics from my last post to bigger ones. I’ve been thinking...would it be a sin to throw this up on BaT? (I know, I know) These prices lately are just insane. I haven’t made solid plans for this build yet. Original goal was to find a clean base e30 to modify and turned out I fetched some good luck and found a pristine survivor. I would love to enjoy it, but in the current condition I feel like it has to stay tucked in my garage. Any advice?

I would like to find something I could throw around and abuse a little bit and I don’t want to do it to this one. And no...unfortunately my drive way is full and can’t just snag something else while keeping the E30, unfortunately.

I hope you don't mind me commenting, but I wouldn't worry about anyone judging you for flipping it. It happens all the time. If this one is really that nice, and you'd prefer to see it go into the hands of a collector who will keep it original, then it may be better suited for one of the high-end auction houses such as Bonhams, Barrett-Jackson, or Mecum. It would do better if you entered it into some prestigious shows first such as Pebble Beach to gain some attention.

No reason to keep it tucked away. These cars are very enjoyable in stock form or with light mods that can be easily reverted back to stock. There are a number of folks on this forum that have extremely clean E30s that participate in track days, make long drives to shows (The Vintage, etc), or even daily drive them. They're not the easiest cars to find in clean, stock form so my opinion is keep it, enjoy it, do whatever you want with it, and don't be so concerned with the market value.

                    Channeling your inner Wayne Carini?

I don't think E30's are being invited to Pebble Beach yet.

OP - I'm with Mike on this, seems like you could have a lot of fun with this car. However, if doesn't fit your vision sell it. If you can make a few bucks to kick start the next project all the better. I think BAT would be a good venue for it.

I really appreciate the feedback from the likes of you folk that have been in the E30 scene for a while now and have some very respectable builds. Any criticism and advice is welcome. Poorhouse, I was thinking just that. The vision of what I had in my head was to find an e30, maybe find a swapped one and have fun with it. I feel like there’s enough money there where I could flip it and kick start the next build. I’m torn between just enjoying it and like what mike said, not worrying about the market value, and doing some light mods + a manual swap...go from there and see what happens. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to throw it on BaT at a reserve price at what I’m looking for and if it doesn’t hit...it doesn’t hit.

BaT has seen some really strong pricing of late. Car is clean, best of luck.

Thank you. We'll see in the next few weeks if I could actually pull the trigger.

Haha yep. I just watched his show. I could picture a nice E30 there... eventually.

                              LOL

They've had 2002s there, definitely just a matter of time.

When they do start inviting them a 45k miles, Sterling is would be high on the list.
