I may be over analyzing this but hear me out.
Heat produced by an engine has a tendency to collect in the rear of the engine compartment. Thus the reason many high hp muscle cars had rearward facing cowls. That is where you want some sort of heat extraction.
I wonder if you've actually made an air intake? Problem with that is where's that extra air going to be expelled. Turbulence is the word that keeps reeling in my head when I see that "vent".
Edit: I see now that the ribs on the vent are directional. Maybe it won't draw air in, but I still think; front of car (or engine compartment in this case) = intake/ rear = exhaust.Last edited by Koony; 10-10-2006, 05:41 PM.sigpic

I think this will alleviate that by decreasing the pressure inside the bay and allowing better flow of the heat up and out. I figure the two biggest heat sources in the bay are the radiator and the exhaust manifold. This vent looks like it will remove much of the radiator heat up and out.
But like the OP said, it's primary purpose is to negate lift on the front of the car. 8-)

Its a vent, people. I doubt the owner was getting into the physics of heat extraction when thought of. At worst it doesnt hurt. Its a unique touch Trent wanted to add to his car, cant it just be that without people breakin down motives and/or functionality? I dunno, I respect the info and all, cuz its always useful, I just dont know if this needs to be taken so seriously. :)
