it wouldn't be legal to put US plates on it though

you'd have to do something illegal like swap vin#s with a 4 door for that - you could probably get away with it easily enough (depends on where you live - they'd never check them here). but it's still illegal..

they would never look at the vins here in SC either. esp if you swap doors and dash tags. But getting caught would be badddddd. Better have the bill of sale with you or it may as well be a stolen car.

Yea everything would probably just a-ok until you had an accident which you probably would while backing out of your driveway in a car with swapped vins that was never sold in the US
        wow. 10500.
I don't think your mom appreciates the value of those modifications

nah, the insurance company doesn't really look at that either. they glanced at my dash and that was it... the police didn't look at my car at all.

              Vehicle Description
I am selling this car for a friend so please allow a little time for answers.... here it is...
This auction is for a very rare 1988 BMW 325IX Touring.
The down side being that there is no Title to this car, you will receive a Bill of Sale only. I will repeat this again at the end of the listing.
This car will be sold whole unless Reserve is not met, if not, it will be parted out.
              Back to the car,
The engine runs really well and is the euro version of the M20. It is a very strong running 6cyl mit 5 speed. VERY PEPPY!! The AWD works very well and it is a beast in the snow. The car has A.C., a sunroof, power windows and heated seats. The car comes with an Alpine AM/FM-CD Player. The car has the split and fold down rear seats along with the cargo cover. The car has the factory tow package as well.
The timing belt and water pump were replaced about 25K miles ago.
All work mentioned here is in the last 25K miles.
The car has newer brakes front and rear including emergency brake cables and shoes.
The car has a new auxillary cooler.
It had a new Ansa exhaust 3 yrs ago but it is about time for another muffler, it probably good for this winter though.
The car has an E30 M3 Gauge Cluster installed with a new SI Board, He still has the 4cyl E30 M3 coding plug if needed.
The car has all new door seals and felts, it is very quiet while driving, no whistling noises.
The car comes with 4-14" Borbet 5 spoke wheels and used Blizzak W50's.
              Dash is mint.
The heat works very well in this car.
This car is a very great running car, it does not smoke or overheat. It runs very, very well.
              The downs to this car,
              The Title,
The two rear windows do not work,
The driver's side heated seat does not heat,
The A.C. is complete but not working,
The sunroof pops up and down but does not slide back.
              Needs a little interior TLC.
There is a bit of surface rust here and there, one preferation in the bottom of the battery box, just like E30 M3's, the battery is in the rear on the passenger side. It needs a new rear hatch which I can help source for you. Besides the hatch and bottom of the battery box, the rust is just surface and this car is far from being a rust bucket. I tried to show all of these areas in the pics.
He will try to get pics of the engine compartment and under the rear carpet of the rear trunk area to show how solid this car is.
If this car meets Reserve price, He will include two new front strut assemblies in which I had the buckets powdercoated black with the car. He would replace the 2-front H&R Springs with new stock or cut stock springs and the strut assemblies will make this alot easier.
If Reserve is met, He will also include all of the other new parts he has for this car, new coolant reservoir, New IS front spoiler and some other odds and ends he has collected for the car.
The only reason he is selling this car is because he has other BMW projects and works too much to complete them. So, he is downsizing and clearing out the projects.
This car has a manufacture date of 9/88.
              ONCE AGAIN>>>
THERE IS NO TITLE TO THIS CAR, YOU WILL RECEIVE A BILL OF SALE ONLY.
I also have this car listed locally so I Reserve the right to end the auction at anytime.

On Nov-20-07 at 11:26:28 PST, seller added the following information:

The car also has a new release cable and a Optima Battery.
I have added some more pics of the car. Some of the additional items coming with the car, the newer strut assemblies, the new IS spoiler and I also have a set of Euro Smiley Epsilon lights that need refreshing but are coming with the car. I have some additional small parts coming with the car as well.
The Black Center 16" Borbet Type A's are not included with the car> it clearly states in the auction that the car comes with the 5 Spoke Borbet's in the most recent pics. The 16's were sold earlier this year, I can help source a set though if you want a set thru friends in Europe or just watch Ebay for a set, they come up.
The Pics of the car with the 16" wheels were put on to show how the car can look with another set of wheels. The 16" wheels were 7.5 x 16 ET20 Borbet Type A's that had had the center painted black.
The M3 Cluster is added by switching the coding plug which is located in the cluster itself, it's not a hard thing to change out.
The car has an 02 sensor and catalytic converter as well as a U.S. Unleaded Fuel Only fuel filler neck.
The tag that was on the car was only put on the car to run it up to the car wash.

I know PA wants a rubbing of the vin tag from a car that's out of state. But if you can't sell it, i'll take the headlight wipers!

You could always goto canada and cut the roof and rear section from a junker and put it together on a legal 4 door car here. Although it would not be original it would be a touring nontheless. AND ALOT OF WORK AND MONEY STILL
