Not trying to ruin it for anyone thinking of buying, but I just want to warn people of the difficulties of such a vehicle.
Its not really a big deal. Find a good wrecked 325i/iX e30 and cut the vin stamping off the cowl. Graft it onto the touring, make it seamless, and repaint the car. Title it as if it were the legit car.

So what if its legal grey area..

it's not a gray area, it's completely illegal to swap vins. however, I doubt anyone would ever know, unless you live in one of the nazi states where your car is subject to close inspections.

yeah its very illegal to swap vin numbers but its not illegal to make a 4 door car into a touring using parts taken from another car. You could easily goto Canada and get parts from a junk touring and graft them onto the legal 4 door car here. All you should need would be the entire roof section and the rear clip with quarters and all associated supports. Although I would not want to through the work to do it myself for a wagon but it is possible.

there are way more differences than that - unless you know of a regular E30 that comes with a 60/40 split rear seat that folds down. swapping vins would be much easier..

well of course you get everything else needed that is specific to the touring as well Didnt say it would be easy but doable ....

And agreed it would be easier to switch vin plates but dont get busted is all I can say. My buddy who owns a independant shop actually did a dash swap one time and forgot to switch plates over and when the owner of the vehicle went to get it tested for emissions, the state realized something wasn't up to par. He had the dmv, local police and the FBI land on his door step because of it. And was a huge problem for him to solve because of his dipshit mistake. Luckily once he convinced the law that he had done a dash swap and actually still had the original dash on hand was able to get it worked out but in the beginning they almost hauled his ass to jail for it.

does a 91 have to pass emissions? or do we just have it that good in NC? :)

I vote for cutting it off and putting it on coupe. as long as your doing the work make it trick. But the vin swap would be the easiest. Just remove the dozen or so vin stickers on the car and put a s/m 50. Some please start an underground ring lol.

please stop this grafting nonsense right now. it's the most useless idea i've ever heard. the entire chassis/rear en on a touring is different to allow the same rigidity as a sedan without the rear crossmember behind the seats. it would be like choping the roof on a sedan and calling it a cabrio.

If this rust bucket illegal wagon from 88 is 10500 the "skyline" should go for about 40k
