The only thing i think is dumb about swapping vins is the saleability of the car at a later date.
Why do people want tourings so bad? I say its rarity some say its looks. But it all comes down to value. And what good is a car if its "grey" And the new owner is oblivious to your previous doings. Then it becomes a problem.
Because noone would willingly pay upward 10K for a car with an illegal vin swap.
Say you decide to leave that little detail out? What happens if he goes on R3V or an equivelant forum and finds out hes running an illegal car. Authorities at your doorstep anyone?
I think Vin swaps are a good idea if you plan on keeping the car indefinitly. And yes, Who gives a flying fuck about a 20 year old car having the wrong vins. As long as you are paying insurance and taxes you will be golden and the state wont care.sigpicComment

Practicality. I don't need an SUV sized vehicle to haul stuff around but E30 trunks are worthless. So for the size vehicle and the small added weight that the Touring adds is acceptable.
Most will say they can't advocate illegal things but if you swap headlights and blah blah blah we have all done things wrong. So what ever the future owner does with it so be it. Send it back to Canada? Good way to make a profit on it minus the title issue.Comment

Let's not turn it into a practicality issue. There are plenty of legal wagons here that are just as practical. I agree with the practicality of the car, but not in a us application. For all the heartache and time invested into bringing one of these in, you gould buy a 240 wagon, a benz wagon, an old suby wagon, and many more for the same cash and less effort.Practicality. On that note Matt, I would say most of the people who want to bring these into the country aren't planning on selling them. If I had one or had the chance I would swap all the stuff on my IS over and sell that car.Yours truly,
Rich

I love tourings. To me they are the first real "sportswagon" ever developped that I would own. Having owned 2 and driven a few more, it's an ideal daily driver... but at 10 fucking K get an e46 one and call it a day. GMW is a stand up guy (He's purchased one of my cars before) but i think this thread was one of those "hell can't hurt to try" idea on his part.

What I meant was he made a mistake by posting a car like this on r3v in general. He will ge flamed for it.
And btw calm down on the douchebag comments. The internet is a hard place to interpret what people are saying. But by calling me a douchebag, you're pretty much just being a dick for no reason.Yours truly,

I think it will be very hard to flip a car that was bought off of the internet, then resell on the internet. Cause chanches are that 79% of the people that seen it originaly will know about it when it was up for sall by the first person that was selling it.
