    Any REAL old schoolers here?

I found some pics of my first BMW a few days ago. It was a 1986 325es that I bought in 1992 and rebuilt. The car had 52K miles on it, and was totalled after some tool (or tools) vandalized it. They bent every panel on the body, broke three of the windows, cut the seats & door panels, and just generally f'ed it up.

I took a new battery and drove up to the dealer's lot, and convince them to let me look it over and drive it. The car had been parked for a while, but it fired right up and drove like a champ. I gave them a dsposit, and returned the next day with a back glass, a quarter glass, and a new windshield so I could drive it 60 miles to my house.

After I got it home, I enlisted the aid of some clients, and got the body straightened, painted it, repaired/replaced all the interior, and installed some new Fittipaldi Indy wheel from Tire rack.

It turned out to be a great car, and my wife loved it. It was the beginning of a 15-year affair with 3-series cars, and I've owned 11 of them (along with 10 or 15 other cars).

I'll round up some of the pics and post them later today.

Are there any other old schoolers on R3V?

Relatively? I guess I'd be considered one.

My dad is probably the oldest old school I know:

    Guess who this is. ;)

    What's wrong with this picture?

      Now THAT is cool.

The only thing wrong with the second pic is - I'm not in it.

That's gotta be in Europe. 1600 convertibles?

I've only been driving E30's for 7 years but have been tagging along to CCA Driver Schools since '91...my obsession with the cars started when I was 4 or 5; it was in an S14/2002 that rattled the side mirrors at 8200rpm, and my passion for 2002's and E30's only grew from there.

Great pics. Mine started when I was learning to drive in my dad's e30 vert. But he's been into them since the e30 came out. Had an 84 318i which my parents sold in 87 to afford a kid... Then he bought a vert when I turned 13 and I bought one when I turned 17 after realizing hotrods suck as daily drivers.

I'll try and find a pic of his, he's definitely an oldschooler I'd say.

my parents had a e12 528i back in the 80's early 90's that was one of the first cars i drove, unfortuantely it was in poor shape when i got my liscense and we gave the car to a family friend who fixed it up and drove it far a couple years. didnt rediscover my attraction to these cars until just recently..

My dad's pretty old school also, his CCA # is 3,683. I remember when he told me about his first BMW Purchase, get a 2002tii brand new, dumped all the $ he ever had into that thing(just to buy it).. and he tries to tell me about saving $, ha!

A bike that he built out of 3 of the same bikes.. borrowing parts etc.. Only thing he didn't do was paint the fenders:

Right here. My mom bought her 325e new in 85...i started driving in 89, became BMW enthusiast and bought the car from her. We're talking pre internet where you pretty much had to join the CCA (#119293) to even know where to get cool parts and contact other enthusiasts. Boy how times have changed.
