I found some pics of my first BMW a few days ago. It was a 1986 325es that I bought in 1992 and rebuilt. The car had 52K miles on it, and was totalled after some tool (or tools) vandalized it. They bent every panel on the body, broke three of the windows, cut the seats & door panels, and just generally f'ed it up.
I took a new battery and drove up to the dealer's lot, and convince them to let me look it over and drive it. The car had been parked for a while, but it fired right up and drove like a champ. I gave them a dsposit, and returned the next day with a back glass, a quarter glass, and a new windshield so I could drive it 60 miles to my house.
After I got it home, I enlisted the aid of some clients, and got the body straightened, painted it, repaired/replaced all the interior, and installed some new Fittipaldi Indy wheel from Tire rack.
It turned out to be a great car, and my wife loved it. It was the beginning of a 15-year affair with 3-series cars, and I've owned 11 of them (along with 10 or 15 other cars).
I'll round up some of the pics and post them later today.
Are there any other old schoolers on R3V?
