Man, what a downer. The car looks great but those problems you've been having are really frustrating, I know. I've had two substandard results out of fairly expensive things I've farmed out to shops lately and it seems like the old "if you want something done right you have to do it yourself" maxim is truer now than it ever has been. The steering rack thing has to be particularly maddening since like you said it's something you could have tried yourself, paint is a bit more of a stretch, that's hard to do on your own without a bunch of time to spend on it, but paint jobs are ungodly expensive.
Posting about it is the only way you'll enact change or keep others from getting screwed. I know that I have cost a shop that screwed me two customers through word of mouth of my bad experience.
