Holy carnage! Given the prices of E21's, I'd probably find another shell.

yea, we'll see. I'll most likely just stick with the same one though, the only significant damage to the body is the bashed drive line tunnel... that's just more room to route the exhaust!

get cv boots from autohauz if your looking to rebuild, $36 for all four plus shipping for an e30.

          Really hope you keep it!

I'm planning on completely new CV's/axles through my friend who can get me them at a whole sale cost. I do have a spare pair of CV's from the 82 E21 that I parted out a year and a half ago, but for good reason, I wouldn't trust them.

also tossing around the idea of swapping to an S13 rear suspension and diff/axle setup so I don't have to worry about the oddness of the BMW drive flange so I can run a drive line that is completely legit, instead of a slightly iffy one like I had.. also, I'm not the biggest fan of the current rear suspension that the car has.

Keep that thing and fix it ...btw the s13 rear sounds like a good and more reliable idea ...

yea, I'm most likely going to stick with the stock stuff in the back, one of the dudes in my car club is hopefully soon going to design a drive line adapter for me so I can run FB (1st gen RX7) drive line ends on both ends of a drive line rather than one.. which also means I could have a driveline shop make a legit drive line for it, rather than something like the pile I was running. should be a lighter setup, so I might even get more power on the ground! While I do plan to run brand new CV's, they still have me a bit worried, I'm going to be afraid to do burnouts and stuff in this car for fear of making the CV's ready to break. at car shows that have burnout competitions I can always pack some spare old CV's (which I already have) so I don't have to worry about highway mishaps.. it would be worth the 20 minutes or so to swap them out.

I would hate to do it after having the drive line adapter, but if i could pull it off.. which I probably could, it would be a lot nicer... but, that's a lot of time, money and effort I don't really want to put into this car right now, and I don't know if S13 CV's are any stronger or anything as well.

it's going to take enough effort and money for everything else I have to do without trying to mount a new rear suspension... I need at least 2 new tires... these tires were brand new in june.... :(

I love everything about this thread. The buzz bomb motor swap, the scrapy coil over setup. Your badass solidaxle Toyota. And the fact that your oregonized. It can't be easy doing all this stuff up in the PNW. (minus the toyota stuff)

thanks guys, I've already nearly completed the new tranny mount, hopefully I'll finish that in the morning. You guys are giving me the motivation I need, I probably hate on the car more than anyone else does, and after it almost killed me, I was really considering scrapping it for a while... but I was realizing how few cars are small enough for my 12A that are RWD already and don't look overly sporty... I also keep remembering how amazing the car was to drive, and I love how it looked so much. I think my hating of the car is mostly just me being too critical of my own work like I usually am.

anyways, I'll post pics of the trans mount when it's done, here's some pics of the truck, it's a big part of why not much happened with the car last week, had to setup a new rear third member with a friend and throw it in.

a couple pics since I cut the front of the frame off and rebuilt it, it's lower now!

                      New paint job!!!

and just to prove that the front of the frame was rebuilt:

that's an extremely vague look at what I did to the truck over this summer, but if anyone requests more detail, I'll post a link to my pirate 4X4 thread.

I spose the truck explains the lack of attention the car has received over the summer. the frame/suspension rebuild on the truck was a huge job, and I still need to make a bumper for it.

                        The resurrection begins!

                        trans mount:

                        on the trans:

Notice the plating over the stock mounting location that failed me during the whole life changing incident.

with the tabs welded on the car to hold it all up, I also added a bit more weld between the body of the car and the stock mounting area for more contact... if there is ever another problem, my work once again will not fail, but the floor will bend, or the car will tear itself a new one. I just have to keep reminding myself that it's not a rock crawler like my truck.

I don't think that will break again.

nice work. fun to see a little bit of the pbb ethos of "just weld more metal on" applied to a BMW :D

I had a ujoint on a CJ-7 let go on me on the interstate a couple years back. driveshaft came through the floor. I know exactly what you mean about making you feel angry/done with a car...it took a while until I enjoyed the CJ again, and I didn't do any 360s.

what's your handle on PBB? i'd like to check out your build.

                              thanks guys.

my handle on pirate is "Maroon Monsoon", here's a link to the build thread:

keep in mind, I started the truck like 3 years ago, hardly knowing anything. so it's been a learning process, if you check it out, I'm sure you'll see the quality of the mods increase as time as progressed.
