Nice. Didn't have time to watch it all, but at 6:50 looks like you let up on the clutch a bit too fast without matching revs? Am I seeing that right? That back end really wanted to come around on you on that downshift.
LS looks so much nicer in the winter months when it's somewhat green.
Strict budget, slow restoration. *Now with moar budget*

Thanks dude! That picture just pisses me off though, that douche ruined some otherwise clean laps for me, lol.
So this thread has obviously slowed down considerably in the past year or two, partially because I've been taking a different focus on life, and with cars. I've been focusing more on developing as a driver than I have been on doing curbside motor swaps. I've got the car to where it's pretty fun and reliable and I've been spending my money on seat time and consumables instead of cool guy parts to put on the car.
That said, I definitely haven't forgotten my roots or this thread so while it's changing a bit in focus, here's an update from the last event.
Something seems to be digging its own water channel into the front tires a bit when I track, so I did a little "clearancing" before the event. Hopefully none of that metal was too important.

The view on the drive down to Laguna Seca

And as soon as I got there...

Oh well, rainy slidey track day! Then it dried up after awhile and was super pretty for some actual fast laps. I tore up point-by with a few autox friends in WRXs who had way more power.
I managed a few 1:47s that would have been 1:46s without traffic. The car's got a 1:45 in it. Not too bad considering the spec e30 lap record is a 1:47.4-I've got more power and better suspension but less tire and full interior plus just leave the sub box, spare and amp in.
And here's some chase footage from a friend's WRX (start at 2:50). Super pretty out that day.
Unfortunately two of my friends had incidents on this day. So, after wringing its neck in the wet and the dry, whee30 dutifully carried me plus 3 good size passengers all the way back home from the track in what's now known as "the uber ride of despair." I really love this little car and days like these are why I don't want to strip it and put a roll bar in it.

No fat chix

I will go back sometime soon(ish) and chase that 1:45. It's close, I can smell it!Last edited by Wh33lhop; 03-04-2015, 08:52 AM.Leave a comment:

Should be about the same as a stock s50 US. Most recent dyno visit yielded 217wtq/210whp. I'm kind of leaning that way too. Have to start looking around.Oh sweet. Maybe a bit less power than an S50 then? Yeah it's possible you'll be okay but I'd venture to guess with your level of driving you will need a massive kit.
The action shots of the wheee30 look great  especially the one filling the 997's mirrors.Leave a comment:

Track pics! (disregard my passenger's elbow, he's new to this)

Respect the dent.

I wish this were opposite lock but I think I'm turning right here through corner 3 or 4.

Corkscrew!

Oh and here's the dickhead in the 997 who couldn't lift a finger to point anyone by. After this guy I think I'm just going to do open passing if possible.

The bump stops on my 330i didn't like it very much but I think it was fine on the e30.
And an s50, right? I'd guess with the extra power and tire you need something bigger, but there's only one way to find out...I've got 245's with 17x9's. You think the stock rotors with PFCs can handle that?Leave a comment:

That wasn't clear. Does it do harm to the car if taken too fast? Aside from racing in general.

I need a ride along on that corner but the whole damn track will work.Leave a comment:

Rough? It's about 3 story drop in about a second... I think it's awesome. but you've gotta line it up right since it's blind. The corkscrew is super fun but it's not really a corner where you can pick up a lot of time. The straight between 8a and 9 is short.

Maybe it's just the video but is the drop when coming down corkscrew pretty rough?Leave a comment:

I really wish I lived close to Laguna Seca, definitely one of the top 3 tracks I've been tooLeave a comment:
