Because your car is better and faster then the OPs car will ever be. Sit back, relax and revel in that fact. :)

Taken unedited from the deleted original post on bf.c:

my own personal hell (m20 stroker)
6 months before my m20 psycho build I’m driving down the street in the rain and my cold air intake sucks up 10 ounces of water and hydrolocks my engine. I will try to post pics in this thread later but I cannot get my camera to work. In any case I called up my godfather and we towed my Natalie to my house, tore the head off the car and discovered 10 ounces of water between cylinders 1-5. So I decided that this engine is going to get a baby build as a backup for my psycho 3.3 m20 build. I have decided to use (by preference my I block if it's not damaged from the hydrolock) (otherwise I will use the e block I am buying) I am going to use the eta (2.7) crank because of the increase in stroke and due to clearance issues I will probably use the e rods I will mock up the I rods to test but I don't think this will work I am also going to use my I pistons regardless and my 885 (I head) (if my 885 is damaged I will replace it with an 885) I am basically just overhauling this motor but with an eta crank. I also am in need of suspension (do to a move to and then from Tucson where I was aproximately 1700 lbs overweight) so I will be overhauling the suspension top to bottom and to complete this overhaul I am also going to turbo this motor. It will be a small 5-10 psi but that’s just so I can get used to a turbo motor in preparation for the m20 psycho build. I forgot I am also buying a miller performance MAF conversion. While in the process I very well may convert to m5 brakes. Oh and last but not least a friend of mine gave me a set of line locks so I’ll be installing them as well.

the reason I consider this to be my own personal hell is I am just 6 months from the psycho build and frankly don't like repeating my work I really don't want to do 2 builds so I am fairly annoyed with this situation.

In the process of this build I will probably use an angle grinder and shave some weight off of crank, harmonic balancer and flywheel.

In the psycho build I will be buying a super light flywheel/clutch assembly and refuse to buy a second one for a lesser build.

I am curious if anyone has done this 2.7 build before and what problems if any you incurred

Yeah, I remember that after I reread the beginning of the thread.... Cool for your teacher, if he's your teacher, then you should be learning to weld? Why don't you do it to get practice since it's your project / material

well i'd love to, unfortunately thee work is being done at his place of business a good 60 miles from here, and he's not open on weekends. not to mention my work / school week is hell (60 hours) i just don't have time. i know it sounds like i'm making excuses but it's just the way it is. soon enough i'll be learning tig as i am joining the (i might have the acronym wrong) SCEA racing chassis team (for clarification of whatever the acronym is it's a form of racing using a car chassis and motorcycle engine). i'll learn tig one way or another believe that.

I love the complete lack of knowledge about piston heights, rod lengths and crank stroke and how one MIGHT want to have all those things worked out before deciding what pistons to use. And then he's building a 3.3 litre M20 with an angle grinder...

Too bad his dad isn't a virgin too...

That's probably formula SAE, and you really have no business on that team other than sitting in the corner and taking notes.

Either way, go about your project. Hope you're learning something from it.

I have to agree. Those SAE cars can be pretty serious little open cockpit machines. Also, a lot of those teams build their cars with very little supervision. To think that the safety of one of your classmates might hinge on your work is a frightening thought.

Jesus you're really fucking clueless huh? Ls swap and twin turbos and be done with it huh? Dude, you can't even build an m20, now you're thinking FI motor swaps would be a simpler solution? I love the idea of the cummins btw, it only weighs like 900lbs, should make for an awesome handling e34.

I don't think you don't get it. I *KNOW* you don't get it. Every time you say something you prove that. The m20's only been around since like 1853, you really think you're going to do something new with it? Answer that honestly now, you say you're a chef (I'm guessing more like fry cook, but whatever) and it's obvious that the most of your automotive experience is based on watching other people work. Your best resource is a guy that works on airplanes, and IIRC there are tons of regulations regarding life of parts in aircraft so engines aren't really built for all-out power.

With this combination of "talent" you really think you have a chance at doing something new with ancient technology? You want to know what can be done? Spend $30,000 and have an m20 that makes 900whp. That's about where it ends, and that number alone is pretty astounding for a 2 valve head on a 6 cylinder.

i get junkyard motors for 150

the point to all of that was simply to state that i know if i want insane power i know where to go or how to do it - american muscle (peice of shit but they do make power) point being they are reliable fairly cheap and make lots more power than even the best s54. but i don't care about that, i want to see what the m20 can do

and i have seen what ppf has done and may end up using some of their parts, but they didn't do everything i am going to do, they didn't push it to the limits, they came close i'll give you/them that much but i am going further, regardless of how you feel. i don't plan to revolutionize the m20 or make it the new it thing i don't plan on seeing folks in the future doing m20 swaps into their e46's but i am going to make some power on my m20 - i don't quite know how much yet but i'll know soon enough.
You're going further? You have access to any kind of machines other than the drill press in your pictures?

You're not going to push any limits, because if you had the kind of money it takes to push those limits, you'd buy a house. Or shit, you're probably pay some ugly meth junkie for a blowjob. It's hysterical that you already claimed what was it? 247hp for your m20 with stock parts?

And that an exhaust would add another 20hp?

                                ...

People don't put m20s into e46s for lots of reasons, one of them being that the e46 came with a better motor. It's why everyone's been telling you to swap motors to begin with.
