Daily decided to eat a front engine seal and leak almost all of its oil in one drive :( And I was kind of missing driving the bmw tbh, I was considering putting it back together just so I wasn't so bored. More things will start to happen again soon. I've got plenty of cash jobs on the roll at least :)

So the dailys back together and more reliable than ever after spending about 2k on it. Got half of next week off and am meant to be going camping. Weathers not looking good so if camping gets cancelled there may possibly be some more updates on the e30 :).

          Time for some more Updates.

So earlier this week I got a little bit motivated and decided to do a bit of work on the E30 and put her up on stands. Turns out that 3 days later of working on it for a hour or so each afternoon it is just about ready for the engine to come out and get rebuilt.

Heres just a couple of pics I've taken along the way.

I'm hoping over the rest of the weekend i'll drop the driveshafts and remove the headers and the whole thing will be ready to come out :)

Forgies, new bearings ect. Basically so its all fresh and new :). I'll see what other supprises are found when its opened up.

The main reason for pulling it is it happens to leak oil from just about every single place possible. So I figured that fuck it may as well bite the bullet and do it all properly.

Couple more pics, engine is ready to come out, just 2 more bolts and lift it out.

Also bought a new engine stand to set it all up on :)

Currently just waiting for my brother to come around with his work truck which has a crane on the back of it. Then out it all comes :)

So this arvo I decided to be impatient about waiting for a crane. So I went and hired one for the night.
About 10 minutes after getting home the engine was out :)

After pulling the gearbox and clutch/fly off I was completely amazed at how heavy the m42 duel mass flys are, they weigh a tonne in comparison to the m20 flywheel I have for it.

Anyway, I got the engine up on the engine stand and decided that was enough for tonight.

Over the next few days I'll start to clean up the engine bay and get to sanding it/deleting and filling anything that I no longer want or want to relocated. I'll also give the engine itself a good clean up and see where it takes me.

Chris - currently for forgies I'm just looking at getting some 9:1cr cp pistons most likely.

Nice work. What have you got for a M20 fly? 323i, 325i or 325e? got the matching starter motor for it?

Got the fly off a mate of mine along with a starter motor to match it. Beleive its a E30 323i fly and I also have a m20 clutch sitting at my brothers house. Hoping we can make it all work, only time will tell.

Todays a day of doing nothing at all because I really just cbf after work. One thing I've noticed since pulling the engine is I have a light constantly on in my instrument cluster. Haven't exactly looked into it because the battery was close to being flat anyway.

So I just learnt that when E30 batteries go flat the aftermarket alarm goes off constantly until the battery in it dies or I turn it off with the special key. Its fucking 2:40AM and now I can't sleep...

So today I got to work on cleaning up the engine bay so it actually looks mint for when the engine is ready to go back in. Also gives me a few more weeks to save extra money for the rebuild while I work on other little details.

I started by cutting away the washer bottle brackets because I'll be relocating that somewhere, possibly the boot so that the car will still be legal in Australia. Also removed the origonal coilpack brackets because a COP Kit is on its way.

Sanded back, seam filler removed and ready for first layer of undercoat.

After filling up a few things just about ready for another layer of undercoat.

Heres a pic of it after I put the 2nd layer of undercoat on it.

                              Runs :(

I'm still not 100% happy with it so I'll be doing a little bit more work on it tomoro while I work on the other side aswell. Has anybody ever made an alternate bracket to mount the cruise control controller? If so I'd like to know how and what they did so that I can cut off and remove the air box bracket.

Fixed up the rest of that side today that I wasn't happy with. Then removed all the seam sealer from the other side, sanded it all back and gave it a undercoat and it turned out good the first time around, no bogging needed. I Opted to leave the bracket for the air box and just use it to house my cruise control. I'm sure it'll come in handy for something else at some point too.

I also cleaned my gearbox up so that it no longer looked like a massive oil leak.

                                Before:

                                After:

Gearbox is covered in cosmoline too so tomoro I'll bring home a bottle of thinners from work and get to cleaning it off and make it look decent :)

I had a look at cleaning my engine itself but after discovering it looked like the gulf of mexico I decided to wait until it all comes apart and just use the parts washer for it:

I also learnt today that I need moar fucking shelf space.

This photo doesn't include my collection of parts in my room or the mass amounts of other parts next to the shelving :P
