Seems about right, I'm planning on an 2.8 build, just tryna get a feel for what sorta damage my hip pocket will sustain...

So Update to this is required it has been some time now.

This is what the car currently looks like there is also a cobra bucket seat in there now but I do not have pictures of it.

I went to do an oil change on Saturday and noticed this hole. I will let the pictures do the talking from here.

So now I have the engine down to this

Anyway stay tuned guys this is going to turn into a M42 N/A build it will be a few months before I start getting into it but hopping to get around 180hp out of it.

Sure is that thing has held up like a boss been thrashing it.

Well I must not have that bolted it up right or something, it is the top left hand timing rail bolt, it worked its way out and slowly board its way though. I suspect damage to the journals as though's pieces in the sump are from the timing chain rail. I can not find the missing pieces from the cover. I would think they would be very small and have worked there way though the system.

So yeh it is good I have caught it before it froze up or something, but now I got to drop allot of money on it to get it to where I want it. Now I need to get a spare E36 running to daily.

Wow! I had the very same thing happen to me. The top chain guide bolt must have worked its way loose and managed to tear off a chunk of the head where it was screwed in. Had to have the head re-welded and threaded.

Definitely a weak point on these rev-happy motors.

Great work mate! I love alpine white and Hartge split rims. I'm doing basically the same thing with my 318is at the moment, about to do all of the braking system. I didn't realise that you were in Adelaide too - I must pick your brain sometime lol.

Yeh it stripped the thread so I was thinking of making a larger steal reverse threaded insert then putting a threaded hole in the steel insert. That way it wont strip the thread again

No much going just stripping the car in my spare time, and contemplating what I should do with it, many many things running though my head on that.

I am really trying to figure out how I want to re-run all the electricals at the moment and will probably spend the next few months figuring it out and putting a plan together. I am really getting stumped with ECU and digital data logging, firstly I can not find documentation on how the ECU and data loggers interact if at all. If you want to run a data logger do you need to run wires for the ECU and data logger? Or can you connect the data logger to you ECU?

I have found you can get a Haltech kit with an ECU and data logger to connects to the ECU. I like this idea for its simplicity, but have heard Haltech's documentation on installation is lacking and requires some knowledge of installing ECU's in the past, which I do not have. If anyone has some documentation on ECU and digital data logging please let me know.

I really want a full on track rat that I will drive on the street till it gets defected. So I am think of the interior looking something like this minus the cage though, as that will be a stand out for the cops, I might put in my own CFRP dash just to make it look a little stock.

As for the handling side I will go with GC coilovers and racing camber plates, hopping to get Massive 300x32mm disc's all round with a brake bias as well, soild bushes though out and a LSD of course (Hopefully Z3 torsion diff). I Really want to go with M3 control arms, but they are a bit pricey will see, I am thinking of going with IE 25mm 19mm sway bars as I will have a fairly stiff setup, and strut braces front rear. My only unknown is places to strengthen I have not really given it much thought but will figure something out. As for wheels well I really want Memoryfab Mtechinca turbos forged, but that will depend if they fit with the brakes.

The gearbox will most likely be the standard G240, but I may look into a G265 if I can find someone to make up a bell housing to fit at a good price. Finally the engine, well I am aiming a little higher I am thinking 200whp at about 8000rpm. I really want to push for 9000rpm just because that is what all the cool kids do, but that will depend on funds at the time, plus it will require allot more R&D time, with intake design, valve train, oiling cooling, internals ect ect.

The only other issue is one shock tower is way out of alignment, not really sure if I want to take it to a chassis joint, it will probably be cut and re-welded it is that bad.

No much has happened yet as I mentioned before but here are some pictures.

                      obligatory engine ride.

Here is the bearings everything actually looked good besides the centre bearings and cylinder 4 to journal bearing

Link to the full size if anyone is interested http://www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/...t/IMG-8830.jpg

And a shot before I started on the interior.

                      till next time bros
