I bet your ass you could do some of the OE style weight placement on the system to get rid of the unwanted sound.

Right now I'm wondering if I do side-by-side resonators in place of the small Magnaflow I have in place of the cats, if that would quiet it down some. Vibrant has 14" bottle-style resonators for $48 each, I would think that 2 of them would help a lot, would it not?

I ran the ebay headers with 95 pipes and a UUC catback. wasnt loud or raspy.

Well crap, that was with the supersprint stuff, wasnt too much louder that way anyway.

Josh, it should only take 6 quarts of oil.

The headers isn't what made it so loud, the oem setup is very chambered and dense. Your aftermarket stuff is thin and light weight. It transfers the vibration very well.

how many mufflers do you have? I'd suggest a resonator and another muffler at minimum. Cats do wonders for quieting things down if you don't have one already.

Generally, the straight setups I've seen are 1 res (or I guess glass pack) for high end rasp, and 2 mufflers. Even then it's still loud.

            Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

resonators don't really make it quiet, they just change the sound. you need a different muffler. you still have the magnaflow? plus a flowmaster? and no cat? that's why it's loud. it has little to do with your headers.

I don't see why you can't fit more, I've got 2 mufflers, a cat, and still have to consider the transfercase when fitting it all in there. and it's not loud either :)

On a previous vehicle I tossed a 10" ish resonator on a system that only had a single vibrant muffler. It didn't quiet it sown at all, but it smoothed the tone. Of course it could have just been placement (mid car) among other things

it sounds more like an issue of replacing parts of what you've got now for quieter versions rather than an issue of adding more.

Agreed with everything. Resonators will take out a good chunk of ht rasp sound.

I also agree. The time for adding a resonator is when you like everything about your system except one area that is not constant like a drone @ certain rpm or a high end rasp.

Well, then what I'm going to do for now is order the Dynomax super turbo, a single 3" in/dual out is only $65. Everything i've find online says they're super quiet and will do wonders for loudness on pretty much any exhaust system. The flowmaster doesn't eveeven seem like it has packing, mostly just baffles.

I say just shove some steel wool in your exhaust.

Raspy on an M50 sounds kind of sweet. Its not a daily driver, why care?
