The main issue I had is the car was appraised at $7850 at the beginning of the year, the appraisal went down to $7300, so I have a feeling that something is amiss in their records of the receipts to the vehicle.

Yeah, you could have easily bought a well sorted e30 for that cash.

I am REALLY surprised that they offered that much for a car that insurance companies typically consider worth less then $2500 now for a decent shaped one with maintenance receipts.

I just went thru this a year ago, repairs were close enough that I was able to get it repaired and back and no salvage title.

          So, here's an update:

I called the appraisal company, and as I said, state farm did not send them any of the new receipts for the vehicle. I emailed over copies, and the car re-appraised at $9200. State Farm offered me a $9,800 dollar check, and for $1800, I keep my car. Considering it's sitting in my driveway, I'm buying it back; I'll end up with a $7990 total loss check.

Cut rear quarter off, throw fiberglass over-fenders on, track car...?

Sorry for the lame update. :\

StateFarm is good about the value of your vehicle if you keep meticulous receipts and maintenance records. We went through this with our E24 about 6 years ago.

Holy shit I'm keeping my reciepts.

I guess if you do your own work, you can't really count that into consideration for value increase, can you?

It's more of the parts that would increase value not the actual work. I can always write up my own receipts just sayin.

They sure must be better then Mercury, the agent I worked with wouldn't acknowledge any receipts over 6 months old :(

Wow I was reading through the thread and then BAM the car is toast. I have so much respect for guys who keep m42s in e30s, and it sucks to see a sick one gone (potentially). If i were you, id just salvage what I could from the silver car, which is basically everything. Then buy another e30 and swap it all. And have SOOOOO much cash to play with at the end of it.

Second offer was accepted. I'm actually picking up an E36 M3 to daily, and I think my car will either become parts for an E30 if I can pick up a clean roller, or I'll just overflare it and turn it into a dedicated track car.

No profit, though. Honestly, I just wish I could turn the clock back and not have this happen -- I've been riding in this car since I was a 9 year old, it has 10 years of emotional attachment that no cash value will substitute.

That was pretty much how it happened, aha. :\ Thanks for the kind words, bud. It's definitely no F20C/S14/S50, but I love the little M42 regardless.
