That Snijers video is humbling, but the second one makes me want to get out and enter a snow rally. Looks like a blast. Good thing it will snow here in about two weeks or so.sigpic

That tarmac video is fantastic. I wish the WRC covered more tarmac stages, but I'm looking forward to seeing France. I was really looking forward to the Australia coverage, but that's a case of more is not always better. I wanted to strangle those annoying Aussie talking heads!
Funny, that snow video does nothing for me. Lots of sideways, not a lot of speed. I guess I just prefer watching tarmac rallies. Snijer's driving gave me goosebumps.Last edited by blalor; 09-26-2011, 08:10 AM.

yeah I am pretty sure I am heading up there this weekend. I will be taking the E39 540i/6 though :( my E28 isn't very road worthy atm.
The first E28 I sold to my buddy is a pretty cool car though, 1987 535is in great shape, and I am bringing up a full Bilstien Sport/BavAuto suspensionto put on. Also, he has staggered style 32s he is gonna throw on. It's going to look good.
also, read through your project thread, I'm definitely going to have to check that out.
Anyways....sorry for the thread jack. Keep up the good work!!!1989 325i|1992 325i|And completely obsessed|:woowoo:

So I went and drove the E30, among other places, on an actual LSPR rally stage yesterday:
It was intimidating just due to sheer speed. It's just a regular width gravel road with an abnormally smooth surface, some moderate elevation change, closely surrounded by thick trees. I had a couple of guys in trucks pre-run it for me so I could go at a moderate clip, and even without pushing I was cruising along at 65+ in most places (there's nothing like going a bit wide on a 55mph slide to raise the ol' pulse.) I'd guess that at a full race clip you'd average close to 75-80 on that particular stage. Makes me want to add a few extra bars to the cage.
From this, and the other driving I did, I learned some things:
1.) My car needs at least a new clutch and possibly some other associated hardware (no surprise)
2.) Something in the drivers' side rear suspension is broken or very loose and causing an enormous metal-on-metal banging, probably the %$&! shock mount again
3.) Relocating the oil cooler up behind the bumper needs to be higher on my priority list
4.) I have to remember to roll up my $%#! window before initiating a huge drift in deep sand
Any recommendations on a durable race clutch kit, and any other parts (hyd cylinder, flywheel, bearings) I should attack while I'm in there?sigpic

good ol' stock replacement clutch should be more than sufficient, really. I have no idea why yours slips, the PO must have done something wrong when he put it back together because a stock clutch should have tons of "grab". But if a more aggressive clutch is the same price, get that. And also come up w/ a sealing system to prevent mud and water from splashing up into your bellhousing.
also, if you haven't replaced the rear shock mounts do it already, get the billet aluminum ones from Ireland Engineering.
Also check swaybar mounts and whatnot, and trailing arm bushings. (tighten the bolts if they are loose). You still have your poly RTABs at my house, I would slap those in if i was you.

I can't offer any more advice than the above, but I want to say that I'm loving this thread and the updates. Keep them coming as the car and you progress!-------------------------------------------------
