This is mostly just a way for me to keep track of the progression of my car, however slow and boring it may be. The car is a daily driver and I work shift work. Combine that with my work space (my dad's garage) being an hour's drive away makes getting work done a bit difficult.
Backstory on the car (Cool story bro/ tl;dr warning) :
I regularly check the local online classifieds for any BMW's or BMW parts. It's served me well to make a habit of doing so a few times a day as I've grabbed some great deals that way. One day after working an overnight 11-7 shift I come home, completely exhausted and as I'm lying in bed I see a late model E30 for sale, so I opened the ad. As soon as I did I see that it's a touring. What? Really? At this time I already had one E30 that was stored away awaiting suspension rebuild and I had just bought a crappy daily (04 Neon). At the encouragement of my GF I decided to go check it out. I slept for 3 hours and then went to go check it out. Once I saw it and got talking to the owner I knew I wasn't leaving without it. I did, however try to haggle with him as any self respecting car buyer would do. We eventually agreed on $2500 and he'd install his M-tech I wheel; he made sure to let me know that he had 2 other people who had cash in hand waiting if I didn't give him something. Left him with a deposit and went to work on 3 hours sleep and being more excited about a car than I have been since I was 16 with my first. It was about a week before I could come out and pick up the car after that as the buses don't run out as far as the seller's house and my GF doesn't drive so I had no way to get me there, and the car's back.
/cool story bro
So about the car:
1993 318i touring
M40 :(
RHD British import
surface/panel rust
Smiley ellipsoidal headlights
working headlight leveling system
File folder full of maintenance records since new
Crappy front lowering springs, stock rears
Day I sealed the deal/left the deposit on it:
Tail lights needed to go, and there was some pretty shitty rust on the hatch and pass side door. From the plate filler area down was mostly made of body fill as with the upper rear corner of the left rear door.
Some photo's before I got anything done to it:
I had blacked out the grilles ( I now want to go back to stock) and changed over to stock tails by this pic
Finally got my 14" weaves on
Can see the rust spots on the doors and fender in these pics, also the stupid hood pins the PO installed. Drilled holes in a good condition sterlingsilber hood :hitler:
These are what my rear subframe bushings looked like. I didn't cut them away from the outer sleeves or anything, they were just that dried out/ripped up.
Replaced them with:
Also added H&R Race springs:
Still had reverse rake, was not happy with the front ride height so:
15mm drop hats
Need some new pics of the stance with the drop hats and some other stuff I picked up when I was at Gutenparts earlier in the month.
Oh and yes, I put the car to work:
