Anyways, Im truly happy for you (said while gritting teeth and wanting to punch you due to the raging jealousy). This is an insane find...... Dont be doing anything stupid by swapping the engine now since you got it for so cheap, theres absolutely no justification for it. You can now spend the rest of what would have been spent by any of us mere mortals just for the price of buying the car, on the engine and other accoutrements.

Awesome find. You owe your buddy big time. So why was the car sitting for 6 years?

S14s are one of the worst engines ever built by BMW.

                      Wow. Lucky, lucky find. Congrats!

S14s are pretty expensive to rebuild. The timing system is really where money flies out of your pocket, as the rails and chain will run around $750. The other replacement parts are right in line with other BMW Motorsport engines in terms of cost, and as long as you have a competent machine shop, it's not a whole lot different than other engines.

If you want to hang onto the S14, and it's turned over 100K miles, it's a good idea to refresh the timing system.

The E30 M3 is really an easy to drive car when stock. It turns in so nicely and rotates easily.

yeah but he saved enough on the purchase price, that saves him money for a build :D

if I struck an oil well in my backyard, I'd build an S14 2.5 evo motor..

I think an "Evo" 2.5L build would be the perfect complement to a streetable E30 M3. The E3 cams are just a tad more aggressive and perfectly streetable from what I gather. Upgrading the engine management and ignition system would be nice too.

yeah, I have plans in my head for a built S14 on standalone. Unfortunately they'll probably have to stay up there :p

I would really think about popping off the rod caps and replacing the bearings before you even start the car. a spun bearing gets expensive really fast and for a car sitting that long it is probably going to happen. search S14.net for rod bearing failures.

                              sweet pickup BTW.

I may have to sell my S50 powered 325IS...hint,hint..but i will see what it needs.
