I'm still trying to figure out if you used the hoist to lift the car using only this single tow hook insert? I personally wouldn't trust that very much, seems sketchy if that's how it went down. Being inline with the bolt's axis is how this is meant to be used to tow the vehicle, but sitting almost 90 degrees from that can put some serious stress on that bolt.

Wow, thanks for the links, theres a local guy who has 60k KM S38 that we joked about putting into the IX, but had never even heard of that, and normal S38 swaps are still a challenge
the hydroboost fits the firewall fine(im using E24) I havent hooked the pedal up yet and it seems the rod is a little long, so i will update when i cross that bridge.Last edited by MattM; 07-20-2011, 02:29 PM.Leave a comment:

Great project, subscribed!
Did the E28 hydrobooster fit directly onto the firewall mouting? I had to space it out with a adapterplate as it was coning in, and would'nt sit straight.
I know of some IXs over here thats been non-stock swaped with S38 turbo, S50 euro, M30 and M50.
E34 iX parts is the best solution as you say, somewhat more better durability/strengt. I've also heard about IX witch have used Nissan Skyline R34 parts, i think that was for the S38 turbo swap.
Even a guy from Finland running with 600hp/800Nm on stock transmission, diff and transferbox ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmswE..._order&list=UL )
Did find this these articles on e30.de:
S50 euro (same block size as M50)
S38:

M30:
Google translate and it's a lot of info there, hope they can help you :)
S54 iX swap could be fun ;) It shouldn't be hard to find one over there ;) Easy plenum mod if you had to modifiy it to save space also. Indivual throttlebodies minimize the need for big space.Last edited by oddis; 07-20-2011, 01:22 PM.Leave a comment:

Did you bolt the pan to the block before welding?
Nice work BTW, I wish I had the space and time to do a swap like this.Leave a comment:

yeah, but as you know, the oil pan and brake/intake manifold are the two biggest issues. I'd like to do one myself if the extra weight didn't turn me off.Leave a comment:

so, i am trying to decide if i want to try OBD2, or if i should just convert the m52 to obd1?
thoughts? Im going to check out an engine this thursday or friday.... :DLeave a comment:

with the IX its not as easy to just 'rotate the engine 12* and make a custom transmission mount' because you have the transfercase mounted on the end which CANT rotate, and you have the oil pan that holds the differential which needs to be level....
SO, you use the factory IX mount arms, which mount the engine at the same angle as the factory M20, but then the intake is super close to the booster mounting... not enough to fit any form of booster.
In theory i could take the entire front drivetrain from an E34 IX and it would all work out...... but where do you find one of those on this side of the pond :(
Heres my ghetto mock up oil pan...(never welded aluminium before this...)

and a test fit i did a few weeks back with a scrap M50 block
