Not 100% but the factory Alpina mounts may not enable to use an E28 radiator. I have a 333i that uses the Alpina mounts, this does not set the engine right back by the firewall and as such I am equipped with an Alpina radiator that sits in the aperture rather than across the front of the car. So now there is no space for a front mount intercooler. But I believe the engine mounts are different for some engines

alpina rad is around 70mm thick and sits 10mm out of the aperture towards the engine. If I push the engine back 20mm then I may be able to fit a spal as a pull fan leaving quite a bit of space up front after taking the fan away from the front of the radiator. Don't know anyone who has tried this.

A FMIC could be made to fit behind the two slits in the lower valance, where the factory m20 oil cooler normally sits. (note that I have the factory A/C still, so my fan sits on top of the condenser)

It's about 100mm deep and leaves a good amount of clearance between the motor and bumper core. I *think* you could fit a traditional front-mount intercooler "underneath" the Spal fan with plenty of room to spare, as long as you're not also trying to fit a factory oil cooler. You can sort of see it here:

I know that a lot of Chevy radiators are in the correct format and measure 22"x19". I will go out this afternoon and take measurements of the inside area. Deeper the better obviously.Si vis pacem, para bellum.

Thanks yes the traditional route is they way to go. I believe my mounting points on my engine are different to what comes with the B6 perhaps that sets the engine back far enough to get the E28 rad without the custom mounts. Although obviously mine are not standard e30 mounts they are the alpina specials in ally.
see how it sits in the aperture taking up valuable space core is nice and thick and copes with keeping the car cool but there is a lot of wasted space. Notice as well that the engine sits close to the front the alpina mounts do not push it back as far as it could have gone.

also I am running factory oil cooler for 333i but I don't think this is needed with the advances in engine oil but I can easily locate this to behind the headlight where the current intercooler is. You can just about see it on the right hand side of the radiator. Also running Ac but the condensers are way out the way and have there own fans. Sorry OP but this is relevant if the mounts you have don't give you the clearance but your block may be different.

Actually, never mind. I have a core support in my garage. I will take measurements.

Alpina made 2 types of Alpina B6 2.8 and 3.5 motor mounts. From 84-87 the used aluminum motor mounts in position one with Alpina radiator. It also had a Alpina aluminum oil pan. I think it allowed it sit in position 2.
I have a Alpina B6 2.8 or 3.5 oil pan coming from Germany soon.
These pics were taken week ago in San Diego. It is a 1985 Alpina B6 3.5.
From 87 and up Alpina changed the Alpina motor mount to steel and to position 2. Position 2 allowed to use a e28 radiator.

I did find a Alpina oil pan. This one was made for Alpina B6 2.8 1984-1986 and Alpina B6 3.5 1985-1987. The Alpina B6 oil pan only allows you to be in position 1.
