Funfgan, the only reason this thread isn't updated better be due to the fact that you are out destroying tires right now and are too busy.
Also is the driveline still rubbing with the car on the ground? I know i had alot of movement with the old subframe mounts back there and if i lifted the car with the rearend or placed the subframe on the jackstands it would settle against the driveline but its fine when its on the ground or lifted from the pinch weld

Wut... Spinning wheels means you ran out of useable traction. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.

No if this was the case u wouldnt accelerate while spinning and you would spin as soon as you got dideways. To think that drifting is a sport where you want less traction is wrong. Just because there spinning doesnt mean the tractions gone. That being said you dont want so much heat in the tire that its getting greasy. Ull spin everytime.

If your tires are not gripping, it means you ran out of traction. The only thing keeping you from sliding around uncontrollably is the remaining friction from the overloaded tire against the road.
Traction is the amount of force a tire can excerpt before it begins to slip.No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.

Isn't friction essentially the same thing as traction?sigpic

yes, and no. Friction is one of the things the universe came up with, traction is man's idea to measure how much you can pull or push something without slipping. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.

Semantics. In a technical sense yes you have "broken" traction but especaily in the realm of drift your still maintaining grip (albeit not as much as a car trying to grip drive) while the tires are spinning. If you need an example watch any of saitos fd follow runs. Smoke and angle but enough power and traction to jump towards the lead driver. Drift is less about loss of traction and more about initiating an overpowering of traction. Its still there.

You went from talking about accelerating to drifting. Point is, if your car does nothing but spin through the first 3 gears, than the first 3 gears are useless. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.

This is a thread about a drift car. My car is also a drift car that has this very same swap. The fact that i can spin tires without a clutch kick means i wont have to put as much stress on the drive train with repeated clutch kicks. Alittle faint and small tap of the clutch is all i need. Not to mention the fact that messing around on a track with a car that can overpower the rear end is fun as shit. Deal with it.
