I was thinking about running it with no idlerLeave a comment:

Thats my M52.. You're missing your idler pulley.
You're deleting your POWER STEERING iirc so if that belt is good for that setup, slap on your idler and you should be alright. The smooth side of the belt must turn the idler.Leave a comment:

Yeah, I don't think its possible to run it under the idler pulley.
Maybe its best to run it without it then or i can get a belt that is a little bit longer and still use itLeave a comment:

You need the smooth part of the belt running on the pulley. The belt is in the right place except it should run below the tensioner pulley running from the water pump to the alternator not above.Leave a comment:

Thanks! I really appreciate it.
I need all the encouragement I can get.
Next free day I have the engine is hopefully going to at least be dropped in the car!Leave a comment:

Wow Craig. Backtracking a few pages, my mouth started drooling.
Definately a lucky man, and well done on all of the hard work (both being able to coin up and do all the work).
Yes, I'm jelly.

Finally, the last piece of the puzzle needed to drop the engine in has arrived.
A 20 hole fidanza flywheel friction plate replacement. I had to return a 18 hole one and wait for an exchange. This delayed me quite a bit
Here is the lightweight fidanza flywheel pictured with the f1 racing stage 2 e34 m5 clutch kit

I appreciate the info man!Yes just remove the S52 windage tray. There is kinda U bracket too that needs to come off, just bend it back and forth till it comes off.Make the sure its done with the engine in its normal position.
Before I installed the oil pan gasket, I put some silicone on the joints both side of timing case cover and some on each corner close to the clutch/flywheel setup...
