In for progress. I was intrigued by this cars sale ad. It seems like a great starting point at that price. Good luck!

Last night i got a text from Devin regarding the right front portion of the frame. Yikes! So I payed a little visit to the shop today.

Good news and bad news from my visit. The good news is that the coolant overflow container got bolted down and the guys added a hanger for the exhaust so now it sits level. Check it out:

            Sorry it's kinda blurry...

Now the bad news.... The frame is cracked on the passenger side just in front of the factory bracing.

Here you can see where the subframe was not well connected to the frame. The hole was done because they were going to reconnect the subframe to the frame by welding a bolt inside.

One more discovery, broken right front spring...

Ara, it looks like you had a lot of fun in this car!!!!

Anyway, the plan now is to first have the frame checked to make sure it's straight. After that the guys are going to box in the frame with all new metal. They are going to do both sides so the strength is even across the front.

I'm going to throw a new set of springs on it for now to take care of that issue. Also new tires are in so I'm going to drop them off tomorrow so the guys can mount them for me.

I was hoping to get the car back by this weekend but now, not so much. Better to wait and do it right than try to continue as is....

More updates as things get done....

Hmmm I am going to assume he didn't disclose any of your findings from your post. This is terrible. I know the car is cheap but come on. I know its on the buyer to have things checked but wow. I'm not even surprised though. I've had a similar experience with the seller. You seem to be positive about it so I will leave it alone. There's no way he didn't know about all of that

Yup, that car was hit HARD and then hit again.

I would have posted in the FS thread but didn't want to crap it up.

Didn't know, didn't care or couldn't afford to fix it. He didn't tell me about any of this stuff but I'm not mad though. I figured for that price there was some work to do. Look, at the end of the day this is one of my favorite cars ever and there are just not that many around anymore. To me it's worth the time and money to bring it back to life. I'm going to treat the car good so I have no doubt she will treat me well too!

It will be a work in progress for a while but I'm still excited that she's all mine!

You have a great attitude. I guess it really is in good hands then.

You're a better man, than me! Sounds like you are a proper owner for this car. I look forward to seeing more updates!

For those who are interested, the right front portion of the frame was bent but only about 1/4 inch out of spec. Not too bad....

Should be straightened and aligned today then back to the shop for reinforcements. Should be done mid to end of next week depending on how busy the shop gets.....

That's good news. Be sure to take plenty of pics. I'm sure many of us would like to see how they reinforced the area.

                              Update 10-17-12

So the car came back last night with a straight frame! YEA!!

Here are a few progress photos:

                              New shoes, Yokohama S-Drives:

                              New H&R Sport Springs:

                              Work in progress:

The gap is from pulling the frame straight.

                              Tacked in place:

So I'm sure some of you will ask, why not stickier tires? Why not race springs?
Because I want to learn how to drive the car first, then I will work on making it as fast as it can be. I just want to have fun with it for a little bit while I am learning to be a better driver.

If all goes well I will get it back on Friday just in time for the weekend!!

                              Thanks for looking!

This looks like its going to turn out well. I hope you have found all the surprises by now and that everything comes together as you envisioned it to.
