Found a tach in my stash of parts. Seemed like a good fit although the rpm range is a bit optimistic !

This is really fucking awesome. How far do they go converting to a 4 cyl? I take it it's a flat plane crank and matching cam? :p
          paint sucks

You know, for some reason i have never considered the need for a different crank and cam for the 4 cylinder models but you are absolutely right.

The 4 cylinder IH engines have their own crank (180 degree) and cam compared to the V8 engine and even the block is unique to lean the engine to one side for intake clearance.

Love your scout. Currently working with my son on my Grandfathers 62' international b110 pickup. Had the straight 6 3spd on the column. Looking to upgrade to the 345 or 392 IH V-8 with 4 or 5 spd on the floor.

My dad must be in love. He just exited the scout family and entered the BMW one.

                Old and beautiful.

I saw a Diesel Scout II at a local car meet a couple months ago. Shit was so rad.

Damn it, I've been driving by a Scout with the single cab & a plow on it for the past few days. I want it so bad but I can't handle the gas mileage.

Sadly, no. I sold it in '79 because I couldn't afford the $.80 a gallon gas prices.

So my scout developed a pretty nasty rattle under load the other day, a sound i have not heard before. It was road speed dependent and was pretty loud. Ran it up on jack stands and nothing looked really wrong, there was a small amount of play in the u-joints but that is nothing new and the last time i drove it, it was fine.

Removed all the covers and pans for transmission, transfer case, and rear end and found the rear end was pretty used up but no signs of anything causing the noise.

The rear driveshaft on this thing is at double angles which is hard on u-joints so i decided to replace the u-joints to see if that fixed the problem and it did !

Back on (and off) the road, yay !
