And I almost forgot! I have been searching all over for a good price on a pipe bender. I have been in the steel fabrication business for a while, but my car budget can't afford the nice hydraulic bender we have a work. I was about to go with a Pro-Tools 105 when I came across a thread on Pirate 4x4. Now all I'll be using is a pro-tools die because I got the CAD drawings to build this!

Air/hydraulic pipe bender! Based on the B.O.M. supplied with the drawings, minus the die I can have it built for under $200 with my steel hookups through work.

Here is the site where you can buy them. http://www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htm

I was in steel fabrication before moving into the office. I started a custom handrail division for my company after being asked if I could build them, I didn't know how at the time.....but after 4 years of 10 hour days of build custom rails.....cages will be cake.

Three Kingston posts and you have to start a new page hahaha!

Once we are in our new shop next month the cage will start, As we speak I'm in the garage stripping the last bits of undercoating.....I'll try and have the stitch welding done before I call it a night.

Well I lied, I didn't get the stitch welding done.....I didn't even pull out the welder but I did make significant progress!

All the seams on the bottom side of the car that in my mind needed welding are stripped. But having the wire wheels on the grinder and only wanting to clean my mess up once I started rolling the car around searching for other seams I needed to stitch. I found a few more........

you can see in this picture I started cleaning up the inner wheel wells.

I figured I would hit the shock tower inside and out, I'm not exactly sure how yet, but I plan on modifying the engine bay to accommodate the headers better so I want these bad boys stiff.

One of the few rust spots on the car, cleaned it up, it'll get cut out and patched up.

How I left her! This rotisserie was probably one of the best things I've ever made for any car project. The plan is still to get off early Friday, get the other wheel well cleaned up, and strip the engine bay seams.

You sir, are amazing. I need a jub with hook ups like that.

Can do exhaust bending with it?

Possibly but there are 2 issues with that. One - I think the biggest die that company makes is a 2", so you'd be limited to header work which leads to issue two.......you have no internal wall support, as well as your radius' just are quite tight enough. Without the internal wall support of a mandrel bender you will either flat back the tube or kink the inside........or both.

This one is going to be fairly limited in its capabilities, it will handle all the cage needs I have, but that is the main reason I'm building it. I'll be using 1.5"x.120 wall DOM tube, and they make dies with radius' from 4.5" - 7" so it will allow me to be very dangerous on the front.

My holy grail is something to bend exhaust with. Exhaust hold me back so much, not because I can't weld, but I can't bend, so I end up cutting angles and wedges and welding them up to make a bend. Very labor intensive and primitive looking. :/

Summit sells galvanized exhaust kits for very reasonable prices.

Had a customer buy one in 3 inch, made his and 1 other system with it... Still have bends left over. Still have to do a ton of cutting and welding, but it beats the old 5 angles to make one bend option.
