Alternator died a couple days ago. Hit up the yard and grabbed a 115amp alternator from a late 90s e420. Direct bolt on to the factory 190d mount. Just had to upgrade to some beefier wiring and swap pulleys.

Excellent upgrade from the stock 55amp. It is absolutely massive compared.

just because of your car i really want to find a 190 chassis a diesel would be awesome, only concerns are parts more expensive (besides yard runs)? weak points? can u make them feel less cruiser more sporty? aftermarket?

A diesel sporty? Har har. The turbos just barely drive like gassers, but yes you can definitely build them sporty.

Aftermarket is still quite basic besides for the few guys making specialty parts. Very reminiscent of the early 2000s e30 aftermarket.

If you can find a 5 speed 2.6 that would be the best platform other than the 16v's. Overall quite sturdy cars, easy to work on, besides basic maintenance. The auto trans takes all the fun out of the car imo. Hardly likes to be in any part of the powerband which makes them good cruisers. Really can't say anything bad about them since I haven't had any serious issues. My 190 has had a rough life as well, besides seepage from most gaskets it's been solid. Then again I pretty much removed everything that could pose a potential issue in the future. The motor is basically bare at this point, simplified.

Lol I meant sporty as in handling don't want it fast but that's one thing I didn't like about the 190 I drove before is it was too soft/floaty feeling for me if I got one I would want the diesel just wondering if u could throw a getrag 260 up there or something lol would be fun I would love a no smog car

                  you are wrong.

Diesel powered vehicles 1998 model year and newer with a (GVWR) rating of no more than 14,000 lbs, and specially constructed vehicles 1976 and newer require smog certification
Smog inspections are required when you register or renew registration for a vehicle in California, but there are some exceptions.

Any smog car thats a 97 and older is free to do whatever the F you want.

Yup my poluter is smog exempt. Tore all the smog stuff out when I got the car. The egr recycles exhuast back into the engine to keep the nox down. The intake runners, filter, and housing were caked with diesel crud. As for handling there's a few options for springs. GC came out with a true coil-over setup to replace the front a couple years back. BBKs 4 pot and 2 pot rears could be had from the larger later big body mercs and are directly bolt on. Biggest issue up front for adjustment is no camber plates on the market. Rear camber links could be made quite easily for sub 100$. Finding a manual swap and LSDs would be the next biggest hurdle. I've seen some guys do nissan diff swaps when the convert to some bigger power. ie 1jz, 2jz.

If you wanted to build a cosworth you could since they share the same chassis unlike the e30/m3. Another downside to the 190 would have to be the interior and how dated it looks compared to the e30. Totes 80s up in here, but then again who cares. Im smog exempt in California that is a god send in itself.

Finally got around and found a Volvo fan to replace the stock units in the 190. With the relay and shroud cost me 26$. Just sitting on the rad it's nearly perfect. Should cool the motor better than the stock fans. I believe it's rated at 3300cfm someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice work, love the green. My dad bought a the 2.3 16V back in the 80's. I remember him driving it like he stole it everywhere. Fun car.

Sweet. I thought about swapping a cossy motor in. They pop up quite often in the classifieds.

As for 190d and later 87 300d / turbo. Some consider them to be collector cars.

Had the valve cover off to take a peak. Surprisingly clean, and the chains were nice and tight.

i want the 190D Vin more than anything just the possiblities are so much better since their is no way for california to mess with you, since u dont have to smog at all. unless do you have to do an inspection for it?
