End result: I like it much better than the 328 unit w/the valve welded open. Its slightly loud, but then again, I currently have no interior. I'll report back once I actually have one installed again, which brings us to today.

Ok, these holes have been here for a while. If you read my previous build thread on Bdc, you'd know that I patched them w/fiberglass and roofing flashing. I did not have access to a welder at the time and needed to get it back on the road. Now that I have one, those patches needed to go. Not pictured is the fix for the rather large hole. The drivers' side is just as bad, unfortunately.

Thanks! I'll admit, I was the main driving force between the mostly bmw fleet. If nothing else, maintenance is a lot easier when everything has either an M52 or M54. Then again, cars are my main obsession, so switching vehicles around isn't something I'm opposed to (though I think the e39 is a keeper).

That's a nice e39! My mom used to have a 2003 530i w/sport package until it got totaled. I love the way they look but make sure you do preventative maintenance on it such as the cooling system and CCV.

Cooling system appears to have been refreshed already - at least according to the date tag on the radiator. Theoretically, due to the car having the cold weather package, it already has the CCV which is currently showing no signs of failure. If the situation arises, however, I've already done the job on my dad's M54 Z3, so I know my way around under the manifold.

I'm with you, though - things such as the CCV were just a bad idea to begin with.

I haven't updated this for a while, so here we go.

Added a resonator to the exhaust from an e46 and reinstalled the e36 328 back section. Slightly less raspy now, but could still use some work.

I'm planning on repainting the car in the next few weeks, so expect lots of updates regarding that.

Also, drove the car to Florida to see spring training baseball last month - did well w/a few exceptions: 1) A O2 delete plug fell out of the OBD2 headers 2) The wiper linkage broke in half 3) The evaporator core drains apparently have cracks in them, allowing the carpet to get wet when using the A/C.

Well, I'm awful about actually making updates, but it is actually painted now! I don't have photos of it untaped, but I'll get some tomorrow before and after the cut/buff. It is sprayed in Acrylic Enamel (Single Stage, Martin Senour. Available from your local NAPA.) When buffed, it has a more "hard shine" look than base/clear, much more "old school" than modern.

Prep: I had already dealt with the rust in the floors and trunk at this point, so it was basically just block sanding.

Hit the doorhandles with some SEM while I had them off... Problem is, I like them. Now I have to do all of the other black trim.

This is several hours after being sprayed - unfortunately, it had multiple runs. Fortunately, since it is single stage, we were able to simply sand them out and blend the paint (towards the end of round 1, we had an issue w/the spray gun, thus creating the runs).

We reshot the areas w/runs a few hours ago - turned out very nice. I plan on color sanding and buffing the car tomorrow afternoon - more photos then.

Ended up having to respray everything except the hood and roof - the HVLP gun just didn't work well with single stage enamel. So, we dug out his Binks Model 7 that he bought new when opening his shop in the 80s. It shot beautifully - the larger tip worked much better w/the enamel. I'l be buffing the car out tomorrow - very happy with the results.

Overall, I'm happy with it. It does have some slight orange peel, but I can easily live with it. Its way better than before. Need to somehow regain a small amount of ride height in the rear - thicker spring pads?

It is 100% unmodified. The tips do set at a slight angle, however. I bolted the stock e36 rubber hangers to the floor. Bottom line - you can use it without modification.

How come your antenna is on the passenger side?

That is an amateur radio antenna. Normal antenna is still on the other side.
